Bakari Sellers, also known as Bakari T. Sellers, is an American attorney, political commentator, and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as a Member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from the 90th district, from December 2006 to December 2014.

Bakari is the son of Gwendolyn and Cleveland Sellers, who is an educator and veteran civil rights activist. He is married to chiropractor Ellen Rucker Carter, with whom he has two children.

Bakari’s paternal grandfather was Cleveland L. Sellers (the son of Peter Sellers and Minnie Crawford). Cleveland was born in South Carolina.

Bakari’s paternal grandmother was Pauline Taggart (the daughter of James Edward Taggart and Susie Edwards). Pauline was born in South Carolina. James was white. He was the son of William H. Taggart and Elizabeth Jane McCaslin. Susie was black. The couple lived next door to each other, unmarried, for many years. Interracial marriage was illegal at the time in South Carolina.

Bakari’s maternal grandfather was The Rev. Ernest W. Williamson (the son of George W. Williamson and Della Story). The Rev. Ernest was born in Mississippi. Della was the daughter of Isom Story and Gracie.

Bakari’s maternal grandmother was named Ruby Ann.

    Bakari’s paternal grandfather was Pauline Taggart (the daughter of James Edward Taggart and Susie Edwards). Pauline was born in South Carolina. james was the son of William H. Taggart and Elizabeth Jane McCaslin.

    James Taggart was white. Him and Susie lived next to each other on both 1920 and 1930 census, but were heads of their own households, both single. On 1920 census all kids are listed as mulatto, and have Taggart’s last name, while in 1930, they have the name Edwards. in 1910, Susie is his ”housekeeper”. James’ previous ”cook” that he fathered several children with, was also black.

    This all makes the Confederate flag that someone tacked on his headstone even more ridiculous
