you have a weird idea of geography. Btw Mahone surname is Irish to me

      • Alice says:

Yes Mahone is an Irish name but someone carrying that name obviously doesn’t have to have recent Irish ancestry. Austin Mahone’s Irish ancestry is very distant and not showing on his ancestry tree.

“Mahone” is a rare surname. I don’t know if you can be sure of his ancestry 200 years ago unless it’s been traced for certain.

          • Alice says:

It is an Irish name. It has the same origin as Mahoney and just a variant of this name. It is found almost exclusively in West Munster, is an Anglicized form of the Old Gaelic “O’Mathghamhana” (Modern Gaelic “O’Mathuna”), descendant of Mathghamhain, a male given name meaning “Bear”.

During the Middle Ages, attempting to record a Gaelic name in English was a daunting task. Most names were spelt by scribes solely bsed on how a name sounded, a name could have been recorded many different ways during the life of its berer. Numerous spelling variations were revealed in the search for the origin of the name Mahone. Variations found include MacMahon, MacMann, MacMahan, MacMohan and others.

The name Mahone is definitely Irish. Whether it can be shown Austin has Irish descent I don’t know but he carries an Irish name.
