Aneurin Barnard is a Welsh actor.

Aneurin is the son of June, a factory worker, and Terry Barnard, a coal miner. He is married to Lucy Faulks, with whom he has one child.

Aneurin’s paternal grandfather was Kenneth Barnard (the son of William H. Barnard and Jessie/Jessy Maud Eddy). Kenneth was born in Bridgend, Glamorganshire, Wales. William was born in Glamorgan, Wales, of English and Scottish descent, and was the son of Thomas Indo Barnard and Anna Keirle. Jessie was born in Penzance, Cornwall, England, the daughter of Ambrose Jeffery Eddy and Catherine Cotton Richards.

Aneurin’s paternal grandmother is Gwladys S. Wintle (the daughter of Charles John Wintle and Alice Gwendolen Cosslett). Gwladys was born in Bridgend, Glamorganshire, Wales. Charles was English, born in Ross, Herefordshire, the son of James Wintle and Sarah Elizabeth Tommy. Alice was the daughter of Joseph Edward Coslett and Sarah.

Aneurin’s maternal grandfather was Gwilym Arthur Lewis (the son of William Lewis and Elizabeth Mary Bateman). Gwilym was born in Bridgend, Glamorganshire, Wales. William was the son of Gwilym Lewis. Elizabeth was the daughter of Arthur Bateman.

Aneurin’s maternal grandmother is Beryl Skinner (the daughter of Ivor Lewis Skinner and Elsie May Maria Morgan). Beryl was born in Bridgend, Glamorganshire, Wales. Ivor was the son of John Lewis Skinner and Beatrice Cecilia Clatworthy, who was English, from Somerset. Elsie was the daughter of James Morgan and Kate Edith Clatworthy, who was also English, from Heavitree, Devon.

    Just because he was born in Wales does mean he has Welsh heritage. English bllod runs through the whole of Wales and Barnard in an Old Anglo-Norman surname

      No one can be 100% of any given background, even if they think so, that’s why I agree with you. However, if he has got any ‘non-welsh’ ancestors, they might be ‘bred out’, so to speak. Who knows? His family and himself probably!

      Surnames arrived so late (Middle Ages), they are not indictors of ethnicity.

      Welsh is his first language. The real ethnic English live more in the eastern and middle half of England and especially in the shires, less so the cities. I doubt if there is much ethnic English in Barnard.

        Great point. If only someone had put up a full genealogy of Barnard, listing his litany of very recent English ancestors, that would have been even more helpful.

        Personally, I never read past the pictures, either.
