Duncan Hunter is an American politician. He was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from California, from January 3, 1981 to January 3, 2009.
He was a candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 2008.
Duncan is the son of Lola Lee (Young) and Robert Olin Hunter. With his wife, Lynne, he has two children, including Duncan D. Hunter, who is also a Republican politician, and who served as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from California, from January 3, 2009 to January 13, 2020.
Duncan’s paternal grandfather was William Olin Hunter (the son of Sylvester Lowry Hunter and Maria/Mary Elizabeth Hines). William was born in Kansas. Sylvester was the son of William Robert Hunter and Lydia Lowry. Maria was the daughter of Washington Hines and Christina Jane Hockensmith.
Duncan’s paternal grandmother was Florence Leigh Shackelford (the daughter of Joseph Tiffin Shackelford and Sarah G. Wilson). Florence was born in Nebraska. Joseph was the son of John Shackelford and Julia Fennimore/Finnamore.
Duncan’s maternal grandfather was John Duncan Young (the son of John Lindsey Young and Nancy Elizabeth Drake). Duncan’s great-grandfather John was the son of John Burnett L. Young and Margaret Avaline Johnson. Nancy was the daughter of Francis Marion Drake and Margaret Ann Evetts.
Duncan’s maternal grandmother was Bonnie Belle McSpadden (the daughter of Stonewall Jackson McSpadden and Sarah Jane/Jennie Crowley). Bonnie was born in Texas.
