Matisyahu is an American reggae vocalist, rapper, beatboxer, alternative rock musician, and actor. He has also performed as MC Truth. He co-starred in the film The Possession (2012).

His stage name means “Gift of God” in Hebrew. Matisyahu was partly raised in White Plains, New York. He was brought up in Reconstructionist Judaism. He affiliated with the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic Jewish community for a time; and studied Torah at yeshiva Hadar Hatorah. Later, Matisyahu largely left the Lubavitch movement, though still attends a Hasidic synagogue.

He is married to Talia Dressler. He has three children, including musician Laivy Miller, with his former wife Tahlia Silverman; a daughter with his former partner Toma Danley; and two children with Talia Dressler.
