i see what angel means here in America most black are mixed if u dont believe me just watch pbs African American lives . Anyways I”m am black and proud . Although I’m do not know any family members that come directly from Africa, here in the U.S I’m still considered African American. The same would be for Zoe although her parent were born wherever , her descends originally come from Africa ,as well ( Ray Charles can see that). I myself is brown skinned like Zoe and people always as me what race I am, I tell them black. Although my grandmother is Indian and white, I am still considered african american because of where my descended come from, i have cousins who are white , with blond hair and blue eyes, and there descended come from Africa as well .

Why don’t you people just say she is becoming a very successful artist. That she worked her way up to where she is now an if you’re Latino you should be proud too and try and do better. That’s what you should do instead of insulting people, or saying Dominicans are strange, don’t know much about PR or this and that. I hope none of you talking are Latino because oh my God what a shame. Back then when all the countries were fighting for our independency all of us or at least the majority were invated by Spaniers, Indians, people from France, and African Americans who raped the women and a lot of them were having babies with all these people, therefore we are very mixed and have lots of descendencies, and that is the reason of all the different skin colors of Latinos. Learn your history and if you don’t want to learn it do something smart and stay shut people!

I am just curious, you said “African Americans who raped the women”…what African Americans are you talking about? Was there some time in history that I missed where African Americans were invading Latin America/the Caribbean and raping the women? I know slaves were brought over from Africa to those countries, but I wasn’t aware that some of the slaves from the US went over, too. :o

BTW Vanessa Williams parents are both “mixed” however Vanessa considers herself black.
Zoe is an Afro-Latina. 80% of “Blacks” in latin america are mixed with spanish, native, or another european bloodline.
Zoe looks to me a clear mixture of both. In america, she is considered a black woman, in latin america they can clearly see that she is mixed.

Angel you are an absolute idiot. You put that people in America are not impressed by this?? I highly doubt that her stating her ethnicity is an attempt to impress anyone. It just so happens that her parents are from the Dominican Republic and from Puerto Rico.
She is not “basically an exotic african american” That is a ridiculous statement because African Americans have descended from Africa. She, obviously, has descended from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic therefore she is not African American but rather a Puerto Rican/Dominican Republic American. Its people like you that give Americans such a bad name with other countries.
We are known for our ignorance of logic and culture. (And no wonder with people like you in this world.) Go to school and educate yourself! Otherwise, you just become part of what is horribly wrong with this country and you are left at the mercy of the wealthy and the corrupted government.

Why in the heck are you calling someone an idiot because they just stated their opinion, which is by the way the first amendment in the Constitution…freedom of speech…No, you are ignorant one. You think that you are so intelligent. Don’t you? Well, you’re seriously an oaf for getting the wrong idea.
What you say is true about America being known for it’s ignorance of logic and culture, but America is also known for great things. America is probably the most powerful and influential country in the world. Seriously you are the insolent, foolish one for not having a life of your own and worrying about the opinion of others. I personally think that that you are insecure and sensitive for caring about what people say about “AMERICA AS A WHOLE”, but you are just one person so why in the heck would you give a damn. I’m me and only me. I don’t wish to be America. If you do so damn bad you should have ran for president.

To angel
Zoe has always stated that she is a black woman in interview after interview, but she is also a proud latina. She is from a latin culture, her parents are from there etc.Now people from those countries range in color just like African Americans do,just different traditions and culture and history;which why they see themselves as different. Now Dominicans on the other hand, are a little strange to me

Im confused? She looks very black to me
I have seen blacks that are lighter than her and not mixed or claiming to be.
Please look at Vanessa Williams…She looks like she is mixed….but both her parents
are light skinned african americans.
Im confused because Puerto Rico and Dominican are a country. It is tricky because
she is not saying if her mom is a black puerto rican and if her dad is a black dominican.
People in america are not impressed with this …we dont really know much about puerto
ricans and dominicans. We do know african american. Basically she is just an exotic african american. But I still love her!

i think both her parents have black in them because i saw a picture of her mom and she looked like shes mixed w/ black [1/2], i also read somewhere that her mother is puertorican and her dad is dominican, so im guessing her dad is like 3/4 black dominican
