Wayne Rooney is a British professional footballer, and football manager. He played mostly as a forward, and occasionally a midfielder. He has played for Everton, Manchester United, D.C. United, and Derby County, and the England national team. He manages D.C. United, and previously managed Derby County.

Wayne is the son of Jeanette Marie (Morrey) and Thomas Wayne Rooney. He was born to a working-class Catholic family. All of his grandparents were born in Liverpool. He is of mostly Irish descent. His brother, John Rooney, and his cousin, Tommy Rooney, are also professional footballers. Wayne is married to product endorser Coleen Rooney (née McLoughlin), with whom he has four children, including Kai Rooney, who is also a footballer. Wayne was raised Catholic.

Wayne has said that one of his grandmothers is Scottish. This has been disputed.

Wayne’s paternal grandfather is named Richard Rooney.

Wayne’s paternal grandmother is Mavis Wright (the daughter of William Anthony Wright and Elizabeth Jones).

Wayne’s maternal grandfather is named William Morrey.

Wayne’s maternal grandmother is named Patricia “Pat” Fitzsimmons.
