Vint Cerf is an American internet pioneer. He is recognized as one of “the fathers of the Internet,” along with Bob Kahn.

Vint is the son of Muriel D. (Gray) and Vinton Thurston/Thruston Cerf, an aerospace executive. His father was of German Jewish and French Jewish descent. His mother was Canadian, from Montréal, Québec, and was of Irish and French-Canadian ancestry. He was raised partly in Van Nuys, California. He is married to Sigrid Thorstenberg, with whom he has two children.

Vint’s paternal grandfather was Maximillian Cerf, Jr. (the son of Maximillian/Maximilian Cerf and Caroline Reinbrecht). Vint’s grandfather Maximillian was born in Kentucky, to German Jewish parents. Vint’s great-grandfather Maximilian was born in Baden, the son of Nathan Cerf and Fanny Rothschild.

Vint’s paternal grandmother was Aline Helen Cerf (the daughter of Henry Cerf and Anna Joseph). Aline was born in Indiana. Henry was born in Tennessee, the son of French Jewish parents, Nathan Cerf and Fanny. Anna was a German Jewish immigrant.

Vint’s maternal grandfather was Charles Nelson Gray (the son of James Charles Gray and Elizabeth Ellen Scroggie). Vint’s grandfather Charles was born in Montréal, Québec. James was of Irish descent. All of Elizabeth’s grandparents were Irish immigrants.

Vint’s maternal grandmother was Bertha Plamondan (the daughter of Osias Plamondon and Elisa Catudal). Bertha was born in Canada, and was of French-Canadian descent. Osias was the son of Leon Plamordon and Sophronie.
