Victor McLaglen was an English boxer and actor. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Informer (1935).

Victor was the son of Lillian Marian (Adcock) and Andrew Charles Albert McClaglen (Andries Carel Albertus MacLachlan/Mclaglen). His father was born in Cape Town, South Africa, and was a missionary bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church of England; he had Irish, Dutch, German, and Scottish, ancestry. His mother might have been born in either Cumbria, England or Ireland.

Victor was married to Margaret Pumphrey, until his death. He had three children, including television and film director Andrew McLaglen, with his former wife, Enid Lamont.

Victor’s paternal grandfather was Jacobus Petrus Mclaglen (the son of James Phillip Mclaglen and Catherina Petronella Neyhoff). Jacobus was born in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. James had Scottish ancestry, and was the son of Lachlan MacLachlan/Mclaglen and Jennett Robertson.

Victor’s paternal grandmother was named Grietze/Greitji/Margarita Cornelia Rutger/Rutgers (the daughter of Jan Rutgers). Jan was the son of Krijn Rutgers, a Dutch sea captain from Groningen, and of Cornelia Margaretha Muller.

Victor’s maternal grandfather was named Henry Adcock.

    Victor’s paternal family surname was originally spelled “MacLachlan”, and was changed to “McLaglen” by a Dutch clerk in South Africa.
