Tom Skerritt is an American actor. His roles include the films M*A*S*H, Up in Smoke, Alien, The Dead Zone, Top Gun, A River Runs Through It, and Poltergeist III, and the series Picket Fences and Cheers.

Tom is the son of Helen Jane and Leroy Philemon “Roy” Skerrett/Skerritt, a businessperson. His father was born in Kingsville, Essex County, Ontario, Canada. His mother was from Michigan. He is married to Julie Tokashiki. He has three children with his former wife Charlotte Shanks; a son with his former wife Sue Oran; and a daughter with Julie.

Tom’s paternal grandfather was Albert Marcelous/Marcellous Skerrett/Skerritt (the son of James William Skerrett/Skerritt and Mary Jane Cady). Albert was born in Kingsville, Essex, Ontario. James was born in Leicester, Leicester, England, the son of William Skerritt and Elizabeth Mayne/Main. Mary Jane was the daughter of James Cady and Rachel Wigle, who was of mostly or entirely German descent, partly by way of Pennsylvania.

Tom’s paternal grandmother was Laura Belle Scratch (the daughter of Thomas Parker/J. Scratch and Sarah Jane Robinson). Laura was born in Kingsville, Essex County, Ontario, Canada. Thomas was the son of Peter Henry Scratch, who had German and Northern Irish ancestry, and of Mary Little. Sarah was the daughter of Henry Robinson and Jane Warnock.

Tom’s maternal grandfather was William Harris Maybee (the son of John Canniff Maybee and Jane Harris). John was the son of William Giles Maybee and Mary Chisolm. Jane was born in England.

Tom’s maternal grandmother was Cora Alice Barnhart (the daughter of Joel Barnhart and Elizabeth Fletcher Jessup). Joel was the son of Daniel Barnhart and Eva Bowman, who were of German descent. Elizabeth was the daughter of Jacob Jessup and Elizabeth.
