    Correction.

Please change learnt to learned. Technically learnt can be used, but to my American ear, it sounds like uneducated drivel.

    • Oaken05 says:

lol, they are not hear to cater to your personal tastes concerning the English language. “Learnt” is entirely grammatical in British English. I honestly can’t believe you posted this.

      • andrew says:

        It’s “learnt” the correct version.

        • passingtime85 says:

          Regardless, my request was accommodated.

          • NOTREALLY says:

Americans calling anyone uneducated, now that cracks a chuckle

          • jackson9 says:

@notreally, America is a great country regardless of what haters like you think. Why don’t you chuckle about how many people want to become Americans if we are so awful

          • NOTREALLY says:

Mexicans and other latin-Americans from 3rd world countries who neighbour the US (latin-America as a whole I mean), want to become Americans, woah man, colour me surprised.
I wonder how many people from developed countries want to become Americans, in most cases their quality of life would simply lower to varying degrees so….cope harder
I just said it’s funny how an American, a country in which people are not particularly well educated at large, wuld call someone uneducated, but hey, there’s that for you.

        • Oaken05 says:

It is no more right than “learned.” It’s just that it’s also not more correct. English doesn’t have an academy or any such thing.

It’s petty and nonsensical to not only ask for it to be changed, but call another version of the word – from the people who invented the language, no less – “uneducated drivel.”

          • passingtime85 says:

I can’t imagine someone of the gentry saying turnt, it sounds like something someone with a cockney accent would say, ie uneducated. It’s just my perception, most likely incorrect, but it doesn’t matter. Ethnicelebs is an American website and my request was accommodated. At least one of the moderators seems to agree with me.

There’s tens of thousands of English words that are considered obsolete these days. Turnt should be among them, in my opinion.

          • passingtime85 says:

            Whoops, learnt*.

          • Oaken05 says:

Excuse me, but who the f%ck cares what the “gentry” has to say anymore than what anyone else has to say?

“Learnt” is neither grammatically incorrect nor is it archaic. Just because your world is narrow doesn’t make it so.

          • passingtime85 says:

The word was changed. Apparently my opinion and the preferred American spelling trumped the British version, at least in the eyes of Ethnic or Follers, or another moderator that may be unknown to myself. Either way, the narrow views of Americans won a very very trivial issue. Go USA.

Ps learnt still sounds incorrect regardless of validity.
