Tsai Ing-wen is the President of the Republic of China, having served in the position, since 20 May, 2016. She is also Chairperson of the Democratic Progressive Party, having served in the position, since 28 May, 2014, and was also previously Chairperson, from 20 May, 2008 to 17 March, 2011, and from 27 April, 2011 to 14 January, 2012. She was also Vice Premier of the Republic of China, from 25 January, 2006 to 21 May, 2007, among other duties.

She is the first female President of the Republic of China to have been elected to the office.

Her father, Tsai Jie-sheng, is of half-Hakka Chinese and half-Aboriginal Taiwanese (Paiwan) descent. Her mother, Chang Jin-feng, is of Min Chinese descent.
