Karine Silla is a French actress and filmmaker.

Her father is a Senegalese diplomat, who worked for United Nations. Her mother is French, from Brittany.

Karine is married to Swiss actor, director, and photographer Vincent Pérez. She has three children with Vincent, and a daughter with her former partner, actor Gérard Depardieu.

Her sister is film producer Virginie Besson-Silla, who is married to director, writer, and producer Luc Besson.

Her name, Jo-Issa, is a combination of her grandmothers’ names, Joyce and Isseu.

Issa’s maternal grandparents were Ralph Hayward and Joyce.

Youssou N’Dour is a Senegalese composer, singer, songwriter, actor, businessperson, and politician. He is known for the international hit song 7 Seconds. He was Minister of Tourism of Senegal, from 5 April, 2012 to September 2013.

He is regarded as one of the most celebrated African musicians in history.

Youssou is married to Aida Coulibaly.

Rama Yade is a Senegalese-born French conservative politician and author. She has served as the French Secretary of Human Rights from 2007 to 2009, and as Secretary of Sports from 2009 to 2010, among other duties.

Rama was raised in a Muslim upper middle class family. Her mother, Aminata Kandji, was a professor, and her father, Djibril Yade, a diplomat and also a professor, was the personal secretary of Senegalese President Léopold Sédar Senghor. Rama moved to France with her family at the age of eight, and attended Catholic schools.

Rama’s husband, Joseph Zimet, is Jewish.
