Linsay was born and raised in the Sucker Creek First Nation, near High Prairie, Alberta, the daughter of Sandra Jeanne “Sandy” (Minich) and Steve Willier. Linsay’s other roots include Hungarian.

One of Linsay’s ancestors on her matrilineal line was named Leslie Kacho, who was born, c. 1900, in Hungary, the son of Mike Kacho and Rose. Leslie was married to Justina Nagy.
