Ariel Sharon was an Israeli general and politician. He was the 11th Prime Minister of Israel, from March 7, 2001 to January 4, 2006.

He was previously Minister of Defense, from August 5, 1981 to February 14, 1983, Minister of Industry, Trade and Labour, from September 13, 1984 to February 20, 1990, Minister of Housing and Construction, from June 11, 1990 to July 13, 1992, Minister of Energy and Water Resources, from July 8, 1996 to July 6, 1999, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, from October 13, 1998 to June 6, 1999.

Prime Minister Sharon’s mother has been described on the internet as having been of Subbotnik descent (the Subbotniks were ethnic Russians who converted to Judaism).
