Taavi Rõivas is an Estonian politician. He served as Prime Minister of Estonia, from 26 March, 2014 to 23 November, 2016. He was also Minister of Social Affairs, from 11 December, 2012 to 26 March, 2014.

Taavi is the son of Tiina and Kaarel Rõivas. He is married to singer Luisa Värk, with whom he has three children. He speaks Estonian, English, Russian, Ukrainian, and Finnish.

Taavi’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced to his sixth great-grandfather, Puutsa Tõnno (c. 1685 – c. 1732).

Taavi’s paternal grandfather was Ülo Elken (later Rõivas, the biological son of Karl Eduard Elken and Alma Pauline Böveld/Beifeld). Ülo was born in Saadjärve, Tartumaa, and was adopted by Herman Rõivas and Ida Pauline Böveld, who was his mother’s first cousin. Karl was the son of Mihkel Elken and Leena Masik. Alma was the daughter of Kustav Böveld and Emilie Marie Silmann.

Taavi’s paternal grandmother was Gunda Viil (the daughter of Karl Viil, or Kirill Ivanovich Viil in Russian, and of Olga Hindrimäe). Gunda was born in Tallinn. Karl was the son of Jaan/Joann, or Ivan in Russian, Viil, and of Maria/Marie Väkram. Olga was the daughter of Martin “Mart” Hindrimäe and Emilie Kändler.

Taavi’s maternal grandfather was named Vello Soondla.

Taavi’s maternal grandmother was named Ivi.
