Simon Callow is a British actor, writer, and theatre and opera director. He is known for his roles in the films Amadeus, as impresario Emanuel Schikaneder (though he played the title role in the original play); A Room with a View (1985), Maurice (1987), Howards End (1992), Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love, and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera (2004); on television’s The Man of Destiny, Chance in a Million, Angels in America, Rome, Doctor Who, Midsomer Murders, Outlander, Galavant, Hawkeye, and The Witcher; as well as considerable other works on stage. He directed the film The Ballad of the Sad Café.

Simon is the son of Yvonne Mary, a secretary, and Neil Francis Callow, a businessperson. He is married to Sebastian Fox.

Simon’s paternal grandfather was Charles Benjamin Callow (the son of William Callow and Elizabeth Corke). Charles was born in Alderbury, Wiltshire, England. William was the son of William Callow and Sarah Bowen. Elizabeth was the daughter of Richard Wingod Corke and Sarah Keyes.

Simon’s paternal grandmother was named Mary Eliza Eugenie/Eugenia Leonore/Leonora Harvey (the daughter of William Harvey). Mary Eliza was born in Lyons, Rhône, Rhône-Alpes, France.
