Silvio Berlusconi was an Italian politician and media tycoon. He served as Prime Minister of Italy, from 11 May, 1994 to 17 January, 1995, again, from 11 June, 2001 to 17 May, 2006, and again, from 8 May, 2008 to 16 November, 2011. He was also a Member of the Chamber of Deputies, from 15 April, 1994 to 14 March, 2013, a Member of the European Parliament, from 20 July, 1999 to 10 June, 2001, and again, from 2 July, 2019 to 12 October 2022; and a Member of the Senate of the Republic, from 15 March, 2013 to 27 November, 2013, and again, from 13 October, 2022 to 12 June, 2023, his death. He led the Forza Italia party, from 18 January, 1994 to 12 June, 2023, and The People of Freedom party, from 29 March, 2009 to 16 November, 2013. He was one of the wealthiest people in Italy. He was nicknamed “Il Cavaliere”/”The Knight.”

Silvio was the son of Rosa (Bossi) and Luigi Berlusconi, a bank employee. His father was born in Saronno. His family was middle class. At various points, he owned three of Italy’s television channels, was controlling shareholder of broadcaster Mediaset, indirectly controlled public television through his government, owned Italy’s biggest publishing company and several newspapers and magazines, and owned Italian football club AC Milan.

He had two children, businessperson Marina Berlusconi and media entrepreneur Pier Silvio Berlusconi, with his former wife Carla Elvira Dall’Oglio; and three children, including business executive Barbara Berlusconi, with his former wife, actress Veronica Lario.

Silvio’s paternal grandfather was Paolo Berlusconi (the son of Pasquale Berlusconi and Marina Berlusconi). Paolo was born in Lurago Marinone, Como, Lombardy. Pasquale was the son of Paolo/Pavolo Berlusconi/Barluscone and Maria Giandana. Marina was the daughter of Agostino Felice Berlusconi and Maria Pagani.

Silvio’s paternal grandmother was Gentile Rosalinda Angela Magni (the daughter of Davide Magni and Maria Luigia Arrigoni). Gentile was born in Oltrona di San Mamette, Como, Lombardy.

Silvio’s maternal grandfather was named Attilio Bossi (the son of Angelo Bossi).

Silvio’s maternal grandmother was Lidia Longoni (the daughter of Giuseppe Longoni and Teresa Barone). Lidia was born in Milan, Lombardy. Giuseppe was the son of Pietro Longoni and Angela Scotti. Teresa was born in Vogogna, Novara, Piedmont, the daughter of Giacomo Barone and Candida Blardone.
