Shawn Colvin is an American singer, songwriter, and musician.

She was partly raised in Carbondale, Illinois, and London, Ontario, Canada. She has a daughter with her former husband, photographer Mario Erwin.

Shawn’s paternal grandfather was Robert Hathaway Colvin, Sr. (the son of William Robert Colvin and Gertrude Belle Hathaway). Shaw’s grandfather Robert was born in South Dakota. William was the son of Ethan Allen Colvin and Julia Eveline Hanney. Gertrude was the daughter of Stephen Conger Hathaway and Harriett Ressegieu.
