Sean was the son of Euphemia McBain (McLean) and Joseph Connery. His brother, Neil Connery, was also an actor. Sean was married to painter Micheline Roquebrune, until his death. He had a son, actor and director Jason Connery, with his former wife, Australian actress Diane Cilento.

Sean was selected People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1989. He has been, thus far, the only Scottish-born man to be given this title by the magazine.

To me Sean looks quite Spanish.
I thought it was common knowledge that the Spanish Armada survivors washed up on the shore of Scotland and Ireland and married the local girls. The Spaniards were welcomed because they were fellow enemies of the English. In any case, the original inhabitants of Ireland came from the Iberian peninsula (Spain) in prehistory and the Scots came from Ireland. I think there were also migrations of Galicians from North West Spain into Ireland in later waves of migration.
Spanish people have a lot of Middle Eastern DNA from ancient Phoenicians colonists and the from the Jewish communities who lived there for many centuries. Also the Moors.
I have several friends with Scots and Irish ancestry who look totally Spanish, and people always ask them if they are from Spain or Italy. People get confused about Irish and Scottish looks because there were also immigrants from Norway and England, so some Irish and Scots look very fair.

That is certainly not true. There are Spaniards who are of partial Jewish ancestry, but there are not as many of them to consider them a significative percentage of Spaniards.
And those children who were born to a Moorish parent and a Spanish parent were considered Moorish, and, therefore, were expelled too when the whole Reconquista thing took place.

Sean Connery is very tan with somewhat rounder facial features that sort of set him apart amongst British people, it definitely looks like he has some Roma blood in him otherwise there probably wouldn’t be a page of people asking what his ethnic background is, I’m not personally attracted to men but I think these features add to his unique look that a lot of women like, I am part Roma and I look a little like a less attractive version of him. You could say he is not Roma if it isn’t part of his culture, but I don’t know that and the intersection between race and culture is a tricky one people could debate back and forth forever. He is also Scottish and Irish nationality is a completely different thing from race, I believe his dad was an immigrant from Ireland and very proud of it and I believe he also speaks Gaelic

    • The Genealogist says:

Don’t be so stupid. Plenty of British people have tanned skin.

There are some Irish people that have dark colouring. You can get people with brown, green and blue eyes and blond, dark and red hair all in one family. There is such stereotypes about what a nationality should look like. This is the same in a lot of European countries. There is no country with all blond, blue eyed people in Europe. There is usually a mix. We are just talking about genes here. Places like Ireland have a high percentage of blue eyes and fair skin but there is definitely people like Sean Connery and George Clooney there as well.

Yip. I’m bored of all these people trying to say someone isn’t Scottish because he has dark hair or a tan. Everyone in Scotland originated from North Africa/Southern Europe (like everyone else). Some of us turned into blonds/redheads, some of us stayed darker, and some of us mixed with other Europeans at some stage. He’s still way more Scottish than anything else.

No he’s not a “gypsy” his grandfather had Irish traveller family, these are often referred to as gypsies in Britain but they are ethnically Irish and have nothing to do with the more appropriately named Romani gypsies which are found in Britain, they just lead a somewhat similar lifestyle.

    A quote from Wikipedia

“Irish Travellers (Shelta:Pavees) are traditionally nomadic people of Irish origin with their own language and traditions”
