Robert Donat was a British actor. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939).

He was the son of Rose Alice and Ernst Emil Donat. His father was Polish, and was likely born in Żyrardów. His mother was born in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England. Robert is also said to have had French and German ancestry. He was married to actress Renée Asherson, until his death. He had three children with his former wife Ella Annesley Voysey. He was the uncle of actors Peter Donat and Richard Donat.
