Redd Foxx was an American stand-up comedian and actor. He was known for starring on the shows Sanford and Son, The Redd Foxx Show, and The Royal Family, and in the films All the Fine Young Cannibals, Cotton Comes to Harlem, Norman… Is That You?, and Harlem Nights. He was known as the “King of the Party Records.”

Redd was the son of Mary Alicia/Alma (Hughes) Carson and Fred/Freddie Sanford. His parents were both African-American. He was married to Kaho Cho, who was from Seoul, until his death. He adopted the daughter of his former wife, showgirl and dancer Betty Jean Harris.

It has been said that his mother was of half Seminole Native American ancestry. It is not clear if this is accurate.

Redd’s paternal grandfather was named Jerry Sanford.

Redd’s paternal grandmother was named Mattie.

Redd’s maternal grandmother was named Helen Underwood.

    Hey, he’s Seminole and African American. He had natural red hair in his youth. He wasn’ just part Native he was 25% which meant he could registar himself.

      Register , good luck with that . Seminoles are just as bad as Cherokees when it comes to black members

        Everyone who registers as a tribal member is required to prove their Native blood including the Native Americans themselves. Everyone else, no matter if you’re white, black, red, or brown is required to do the same.

          It varies to tribe to tribe, but in many tribes if someone you’re related to listed themselves as Native American on a census that’s enough “proof”. The problem with that, is census takers/enumerators don’t have to substantiate such claims. Anyone can claim NA heritage and if it’s written down, that can enough evidence for enrollment.

          It’s a inaccurate system that should be based on genotyping, but that would never be implemented because it would cut down tribal numbers, and that would effect government assistance. NAs will never risk their money and property rights, so it’ll never happen.
