R. B. Bennett was a Canadian lawyer, businessperson, philanthropist, and politician. A member of the Conservative Party, he served as the eleventh Prime Minister of Canada, from August 7, 1930 to October 23, 1935.

Prime Minister Bennett was the son of Henrietta (Stiles) and Henry John Bennett. He was a distant cousin of W. A. C. Bennett and his son Bill Bennett, who were Premiers of British Columbia.

Prime Minister Bennett’s paternal grandparents were Nathan Murray Bennett (the son of Benjamin Bennett and Rebecca Stevens) and Rachel Ann Marshall. Benjamin was born in Connecticut, the son of Zadock Bennett and Mercy Mary Hackett. Rebecca was the daughter of Nehemiah Stevens, from Massachusetts, and of Rebecca Anderson.

Prime Minister Bennett’s maternal grandparents were David Stiles (the son of Elisha Stiles and Mary Hoar) and Mary Ann Wright. Prime Minister Bennett’s great-grandmother Mary Hoar was the daughter of Ebenezer Hoar, from Massachusetts, and of Catherine Downing, from Nova Scotia.
