Peter Shumlin is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as Governor of Vermont, from January 6, 2011 to January 5, 2017. He was previously President pro tempore of the Vermont Senate, from January 1997 to January 2003, and again from January 2007 to January 2011.
Peter is the son of Kitty Adriana (Prins) and George Joseph Shumlin. His father was Jewish (of Russian Jewish descent). His mother was born in The Hague, Netherlands, from a Protestant background.
Peter is married to Kate Hunt. He has two children with his former wife Deborah Holway.
