Pete Escovedo is an American percussionist. His father, Pedro “Peter” Escovedo Barrera, was a Mexican immigrant, from Saltillo, Coahuila, and had Spanish and Indigenous Mexican ancestry. His mother, Anita L. Valenzuela, was also of Mexican origin. He is the father of musicians Peter Michael Escovedo and Sheila E., as well as the biological paternal grandfather of television personality Nicole Richie. He is married to Juanita M. Garderé.

Pete’s paternal grandfather was Manuel Escovedo Rodríguez (the son of Pedro Escovedo Ydrogo and Francisca Rodríguez Villanueva). Pedro was the son of Ignacio Escovedo and María Juana Ydrogo. Francisca was the daughter of Asención Rodríguez Tornera and Guadalupe Villanueva Lales.

Pete’s paternal grandmother was María Hipólita Barreda Escobedo (the daughter of Manuel Domingo Barreda y Olmedo and María de Jesús Escovedo García). Manuel was the son of Benito José Nemesio Soledad Barreda Garduño and Soledad Olmedo Arévalo. María de Jesús was the daughter of Pablo Escobedo and Felipa García.
