Her father, Íñigo de la Huerta y Ozores, the Spanish XVII Duke of Mandas and Villanueva, was born in San Sebastián, Basque Country, Spain, though he was of Spanish (non-Basque) descent, with his family from Madrid. Her mother, Judith Bruce, is an American.

Paz’s paternal grandfather was Ignacio de la Huerta y Fernández de Henestrosa (the son of Ricardo de la Huerta y Avial and Rafaela Fernández de Henestrosa y Gayoso de los Cobos, IX Marquesa de Puebla de Parga, Duquesa de Mandas y Villanueva). Ricardo was the son of Ricardo de la Huerta y Romillo, who was a senator, and of Margarita Avial y Lloréns. Rafaela was the daughter of Don Ignacio Fernández de Henestrosa y Ortiz de Mioño, VIII Conde de Moriana del Río, and of Doña Francisca de Borja Gayoso de los Cobos y Sevilla, XV Marquesa de Camarasa, who was born in Napoli, Italy, of Spanish descent.
