Patrick Swayze was an American dancer, actor, singer, and songwriter. Among his siblings is actor Don Swayze. He was married to writer, director, actress, and dancer Lisa Niemi, until his death.

It has been written that Patrick had distant Apache Native American ancestry. No documented Native American ancestry is listed in any publicly available family trees of Patrick Swayze.

Patrick was selected People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1991.

Patrick’s surname originates with a man named John Swazey/Swezey/Swasey, who was born, c. 1621, in Sherborne, Dorsetshire, England, and who died in Suffolk, New York.

Patrick’s paternal grandfather was Jesse Elijah Swayze (the son of James Wesley Swayze and Sarah Elizabeth “Sallie” McDonald). James was the son of Alexander Pope Swayze and Amanda Mary Frances Littleton. Sarah was the daughter of Joseph Joel McDonald and Saphronia/Saphrona Barrett/Castleman.

Patrick’s paternal grandmother was Mamie Bell Johnson (the daughter of Duncan/Dunc Malcolm Johnson and Mary Anna McGee). Duncan was the son of Peter Johnson and Elizabeth.

Patrick’s maternal grandfather was Victor Elliott/Elliot Karnes (the son of William Charles Karnes and Pearl Lovejoy). William was the son of Victor Carson Karnes and Frances Helen Turner. Pearl was the daughter of Reason Elliott/Elliot Lovejoy and Martha Lucinda Hornsby.

Patrick’s maternal grandmother was Gladys Mae/May Snell (the daughter of Oscar Snell and Lillian Jones Hughes). In one census record, Gladys’ father is listed as having been born in the Netherlands.

So, did Oscar Snell really exist, and was he Dutch?

I’m not sure where you got that French Norman root for “Swayze” surname. It just sounds German.

Just a typical white American.

neiltennant September 12, 2013 at 1:49 pm

follers September 12, 2013 at 2:40 pm

He had no traceable Native American ancestry.

luckystar July 25, 2016 at 12:10 pm

His eyes is very common in many european ethnicities
bone-structure too
He doesnt have recent native american ancestors enought to look half or part one
He is pan european, not castizo, mestizo…

luckystar July 25, 2016 at 12:11 pm

Enough*

They don’t look Native American at all. They just have strong Cro-Magnon features, which can be easily found in Germanic countries

christian March 25, 2012 at 2:09 pm

he looked a little bit exotic

minimal native american signs

sadie March 25, 2012 at 2:14 am

Another one gone too soon. I loved his acting and he was so handsome :(

Bobbie February 5, 2012 at 4:30 am

He had very strong features, with pronounced cheek bones that I’d think he must have been part American Indian, or an ethnicity where those exotic features are found.

THE SAME THING I SAID

Me January 22, 2012 at 12:54 am

Why do white people try to claim him? He is castizo like most white Americans. Only ugly ones are just white. Stop trying to claim him.

Alice January 22, 2012 at 2:33 am

No one is trying to claim him. He is what he is. Mostly white European of mainly Irish descent. Regarding the above entry Norman French is not a language found in France. The Normans were originally Vikings that settled in Normandy who mixed with the local French population. The Normans invaded Britain and Ireland. My surname is a Norman name but I’m an Irish-Australian. Many Irish have Norman derived names e.g Fitzgerald, Burke, Costello, Barry. There are hundreds of them but people with these names claim only Irish as their heritage. These surnames have been in Ireland for hundreds of years.

Here is a list of some Norman names in Ireland.

“It is also rumored that Swayze is of distant Apache descent.”

Ethnic, if it is just a rumor, why is it listed under his ethnicity?

O_o

You need to know for sure before you list it as a part of his ethnicity.

Alice January 24, 2012 at 4:57 am

I’d like to know why comments that aren’t in anyway controversial get marked down. People just seem to mark down for the sake of it. I would rather someone comment if they disagree with something.

ana August 2, 2011 at 8:13 pm

Swayze is not a French sounding name.

I searched his surname, and although it is a Norman name, House of Names says it’s an English surname.. Tbh, I’ve never heard of anyone claiming ‘Norman French’ as their ethncity before, including myself.

dan October 4, 2010 at 7:52 pm

The site doesn’t say that Norman French is an ethnicity, it just says that his surname is Norman French in origin.
