Oscar Wilde was an Irish writer and poet.

He was the son of Jane Francesca “Agnes” (Elgee) and William Robert Wills Wilde. Oscar was married to Constance Lloyd, until her death, with whom he had two children.

Oscar’s mother apparently stated that she had Italian ancestry from the sixteenth centuary, and that her maiden name, Elgee, was originally Algiati. No genealogical evidence has been produced to support this claim. Oscar’s Elgee line appears to only be traceable to ancestors from England.

Oscar’s paternal grandfather was Thomas Willis/Wills Wilde (the son of Ralph Wilde and Margaret O’Flynne). Ralph was born in Durham, England, the son of William Wilde and Anne Wardlow.

Oscar’s paternal grandmother was Amelia Flynne (the daughter of John Flynne and Elizabeth Donaldson). Amelia was born in Ballynagobbin, Cong, County Mayo, Connacht, Ireland.

Oscar’s maternal grandfather was Charles Elgee (the son of John Elgee and Jane Waddy). Charles was born in Wexford, County Wexford, Leinster, Ireland. John was the son of Charles Elgee, who was English, from County Durham, and of Alice. Jane was the daughter of Cadwaller Waddy and Eleanor Tench.

Oscar’s maternal grandmother was named Sarah Kingsbury (the daughter of The Rev. Thomas Kingsbury). Thomas was the son of The Rev. John Kingsbury.
