Nicole Richie is an American socialite, television personality, fashion designer, author, and actress. She became famous starring in the reality show The Simple Life, alongside Paris Hilton. Her rap name is Nikki Fre$h.
Nicole was adopted by singer Lionel Richie and Brenda Harvey, who were married then. Her legal half-sister is model Sofia Richie, who is Lionel’s biological daughter. She is married to musician Joel Madden, with whom she has two children.
Nicole’s biological parents are Karen Moss and Peter Michael Escovedo. Peter was a band member of Lionel Richie’s band, and is a percussionist and musical director. Karen was said to have been a backstage assistant of the band. The two were said to have left Nicole in Lionel’s care because they could not provide for her. Nicole’s biological father is of Mexican, including Spanish and Indigenous, and Louisiana Creole, including French, African, and distant English, ancestry, descent; and is the brother of singer, drummer, and percussionist Sheila E. (born Sheila Escovedo). Nicole’s biological mother is likely black and/or mixed-race black. Nicole still keeps in contact with her biological mother.
Nicole’s biological paternal grandfather is Pete Escovedo (Peter Michael Escovedo, the son of Pedro “Peter” Escovedo Barrera and Anita L. Valenzuela). Pete was born in California, and is a percussionist. Pedro was a Mexican immigrant, from Saltillo, Coahuila, and had Spanish and Indigenous Mexican ancestry. Pedro’s parents were Manuel Escovedo Rodríguez and María Hipólita Barreda Escobedo. Anita was also of Mexican origin.
Nicole’s biological paternal grandmother is Juanita Marie Garderé (the daughter of Nicholas Alphonse Garderé and Marie Laura Pelletier). Juanita was born in California. Nicholas and Marie were Lousiana Creoles (of French, African, and distant English, ancestry). Nicholas was the son of Ernest Alphonse Garderé and Louise Mary Leclerc. Marie was the daughter of Joseph Ernest Pelletier and Marie Laetar Laure Nabonne.

1st of all kimmie, ALL black people are NOT ghetto and for you to categorize blacks like this is a problem. All black people were not raised in the ‘hood’, speak slang nor dress ghetto. I am black and was raised in the suburbs, speak proper english,and have an associates degree in accounting. currently going for my bachelors. My sister is also going for her bachelors in the healthcare field. soo stop it with ALL blacks are ghetto and thank you red diva. someone has to be real!
Red Diva, what do you mean about her not in-bracing her black heritage?? I know a few black people who act white and they are proud of being black. Don’t forget she grew up RICH and went to a prep school with a bunch of white people. When you are brought up in a certain environment that is what you become accustom too. Just because she doesn’t talk in-proper engish, dates a bunch of black dudes and dresses all ghetto doesn’t mean she not proud of who she is.
Her mother was white trash that worked backstage for Richie’s group. She was a groupie that slept with the members of the band, and got pregnant while she was sleeping with Escovado. He signed the birth certificate but would not commit to a relationship with the band’s whore. Lionel’s wife felt sorry for the child and opened her heart and home to her.
Nicole has never embraced her black heritage; although, black people are the ones who accepted, loved, and nurtured her; from her parents to her godparents.
It is obvious from looking at her that she is not white. Her mother may not have been completely white because Nicole has too many dominate non-white features. From her hair, eye color, skin complexion, and body frame(when she is not starving herself).
Regardless of the love shown to her by black people, she has chosen to attempt to live her life as a white woman, and that is why she has encountered all of the problems in her life. She was trying to be something that she was not. It is apparent that she desperately wants to deny her black ethnicity even though her white and hispanic family did not want her.
There are too many intelligent, successful and responsible black individuals. Blacks do not need some mixed breed misfit who parents did not want her to be proud of. She has done nothing to make any ethnical group proud of her. She introduced herself to the world as a dummy, she is a substance abuser, and has glorified being an unwed mother. Nicole Richie is a complete disgrace! Lionel and his ex-wife love her because no matter what, black parents did not turn their backs on their children, not matter how bad things get. It is the love from Lionel and Brenda that has got Nicole through her obstacles, not the losers that abandoned her.
