”It is high time that censuses had a category for people who are of more than one ethnic background!” – That is other than ‘mixed’… cos then mostly everyone could tick that box, as most americans have some mixture way back, whether currently seen as ‘black’ or ‘white’…

You people are soooo engrossed into this whole white black thing it is pathetic. Just cos someone has african ancestry in them does not mean they are automatically black, unless you are going by skin colour, in which case she is not black. If you are going by ancestry, she is mixed race. ‘Black’ people especially need to stop categorising anyone who has a snippet of African heritage as ‘black’. What about all the other ethnic backgrounds this girl clearly has in her? Do they not matter? Jus cos she has a part black part creole (the latter being very mixed native american/african/european) (and lets not forget mexican) father, does not mean she is black. And what is black anyway? Why all this racial classification? We are what we are and what we know, not what people see and judge. Clearly raised point by Tiger Woods, a man who would not adhere to the small mindedness of people who go by skin colour and do not respect people’s genes and heritage, especially those with mixed heritage. I myself have light brown skin as my mother is half eastern african/half southern indian and my father is caucasian of french ancestry. I have had this, you are black bullshit all my life and hate that no one pays attention to the cultural backgrounds that come with heritage, all three of which I am very proud of. I consider myself multi racial and resent the term ‘black’, and ask, ‘what do you mean when you say I am black?’ If you look at a chart of primary colours, I sure as hell aint on there! People need to be openminded and should embrace everything that people are and stop classifying black, white, hispanics and asians. It is high time that censuses had a category for people who are of more than one ethnic background! (No offence to people who hang on the terms black and white. Just my opinion and similarly the opinions of many of my friends who are of any mixed ancestry, not just ‘white’/’black’) It is the 21st century, grow up please…
