when people think trinidad they right away think of an indian person which i find stupid because there are many black people there and it’s a fact that black people were there first then the indians and later on asians. It’s okay to say that there are indians there but don’t define the place as indian cause it’s not.

Nia herself said her heritage is trinidadian and Grenadian. So no haitian heritage in her background.

Nia’s eyes are gorgeous. They are similar to many Asians. Trinidad has a lot of Chinese-Trinidadias. It’s possible she is of Chinese ancestry. Before someone argues that she just looks black… Black people are so many things.

Nia is a natural beauty. She looks the same as 20 years ago. Her freckles are adorable. Her skin is flawless. She has an amazing glow.

For someone to get upset over the posibility of her being more than Trini is stupid. Trinidadian people can have other nationalities? What if her grandparents went to Trinidad from Haiti. Or a great grandparent could have come from Haiti and married a Trini. We don’t know. That’s the beauty of this diverse world we live in.

That’s no diff from if she has a grand child down the road and someone lists him/her on this site as American w/ possibly Trinidadian decent. And someone says, “Prove he is Trini. Nia is American. Her son is American.”

There’s absolutely nothing offensive with people calling themselves who they really are. Mixed people are not people that someone can choose to call them by any race(Black),that suits you. South Africa may be a country that little is thought of, but it can educate the world. The mixed people’s race has a name the same way as Black,White,Indian or Chinese, it’s called Coloured. A proud South African Coloured politician,Trevor Manuel, google him and educate yourself and find some pride in who you are. I’m Black and totally disapprove of your attitude,it reminds me of a stupid SA politician who made a stupid comment about Coloured people. I can tell you are Black,Black Americans are always fighting against the idea of Coloured Americans being recognised as such.Yes Coloureds are extremely beautiful but that shouldn’t make you want them not to recognise and appreciate who they really are, it seems you guys don’t see yourselves Black Americans as beautiful people hence you want Coloured Americans not to recognise recognise and accept themselves for who they really are. I’m so proud to be Xhosa,so proud to be Nguni.

Black, White, Asian etc. Who fucking cares? Why do people still insist on saying dumb shit things like “i’m white and proud” or vice versa. It’s fucking primitive. If these people want to be taken seriously they need to GROW UP, stop going by stupid fucking traditions and start worrying about more important things like the SURVIVAL of the HUMAN race as a whole. Be proud of what you’ve achieved and who you are on the inside, because being proud of your skin colour, race, the way you look, just shows that you don’t put much worth on who you are on the inside and your intellect.

Hypocrite.

For someone who supposedly does not care about race, why are you insisting that one must refer to themselves as mixed even if they have a “drop” of another race in them and why on earth are you on a site that is dedicated to race? You claim to not be racist yet you insist that people must follow the “one drop rule,” in which they cannot be white even if they have one ancestor who was not white, which by the way, is ignorant, racist, and stupid in and of itself.

Then you go on a tangent about how race is not the equivalent to skin color, and some further bullshit about how you have to be “pure white” or “full white.”

You cannot preach that race does not matter while encouraging people to follow a racist ideal that was implemented in order to oppress other races.

You are the only one who needs to grow up.

You are mixed, get over it. By your accusations, i can safely guess that you know nothing about human races. The reason why you look more black than white is simple: It is the more dominant gene, so you may look black. But race has nothing to do with skin colour no matter what some people will argue, and you cannot change the fact that you ARE mixed race as you have two races in your blood. Wouldn’t you think it’s stupid if i got called offensive for saying someone was born in Asian because they WERE?

...Correction June 2, 2010 at 9:32 pm

We are of Carib Indian descent (a type of Native American) and still have a surviving population of black Carib Indians in Tobago (Europeans classified Carib Indians as Yellow- easy to conquer- and black – kicked their a****). We also have Madrassi Indian (from India) in our bloodline.

Although we are technically of mixed heritage, most of us prefer to be called black and see our “mixed” ancestry as just part of our black beauty.

OMG September 17, 2010 at 10:42 pm

technically native american doesn’t mean indigenous people from north america, last time i checked there was a south america and central america as well. all indigenous people are termed natives of america or amerindian, even though how we lump 2 continents worth of people into 1 group is confusing to me. thats like saying a russian and a korean are the same because they share the same continental land mass. lol.

I can see it, being as though part of Russia is in Europe & the other part is in Asia, but their all still Russian & they’re all caucasian. They just happened to be bi-continental.
(General statement) Race is actually determined by the similar physical look of a people that usually happen to be from the same region. Black people are global, being from Trinidad, Jamaica, Canada, U.S., Europe or anywhere else doesn’t change your race (including Latin countries…cause most of yal def hate to be black. Knowing there is NO why a straight haired European and a straight haired Native mixed together and got your thick curly haired selves. Not to mention yal have actually maintained more of African culture than African-Americans were able to. Look at yals music, style of dance ). We are black because we are descendants of people that have similar physical characteristics from the same region, the Africans/Negriodian/ Black (however you refer to it). If she was not black she wouldn’t be Afro-Trinidadian (which actually she’s not because she was born in Brooklyn, so SHE’S American. Her parents are Trinidadian, Trinidadian-American if they have dual citizenship) .* Afro-*, is a prefix meaning of African descent. If you see ‘Afro-” the people refered to are def of African descent…
