what about rihanna?
she is half afro-guyanese, quarter afro-bajan and quarter irish, yet people refer to her as ‘black’ and not mixed.
she’s 75% black and 25% white, how come no one counts that 25% of white, but if someone is 25% african, they are automatically seen as black mixed/light-skinned black e.g. naya rivera. she’s also 25% german, which is white, how comes then she isnt regarded as white, but because shes quarter african american, she’s black?

@monica

you misunderstood,I didn’t said she was black.I said if she is part AA,then that is part of what she is.I never said she had to call herself black(naya). Now as far as rihanna goes, although I see her as a young black woman,I know she has a mixed bloodline.People recognize what they’re familar with, and with her they see a black girl.I’m like her in that one of my grandparents is white, but I see myself as black. Now if she wants to be seen as a mixed girl, that’s fine with me I have no problem with that.I wasn’t mad about that, just at what that other person had to say.

She looks like it and so does Rihanna. I look white, but I’m mixed. The reason I’m considered white is because I look like it.

My cousins are half African (Malawian) and they’re way darker than Rihanna so i doubt she’s actually 75% African. Keri Hilson is considered fully black too and i know mulattoes that are darker than her. Don’t get me wrong, i know that Africa has many different ethnicities and a range of different skin tones but c’mon, have you ever seen a black African person as light as Rihanna and Keri Hilson?

Honey I actually have seen them and plenty. My step mum is lighter than both Rihanna and keri and she has freckles in her body. And many people say Africans can be mixed as well and I know that but my step mum can go as far back as her great great great grand parents and none of them are white or mixed she’s just one very light Central African woman. One thing we forget is we see these celebs on tv and what not and all those lights and camera flashes actually make them look lighter than they’re. My friend saw Beyonce once and she said she’s indeed light but nowhere as light as we see on tv. It comes to Black people in general being in America, Africa or Caribbean their skin tones should really never be how you measure their admixtures it’s very misleading.
P.S: Rihanna was just called N***a b***h by a white magazine and she had a racism encouter by a portuguese man calling her negro again. So yeah white people still see her or keri as just black despite her being somewhat mixed

I’m so sick & tired of African Americans trying to claim everyone with the slightest African in them—You guys need to get a clue and wake up to present day–It’s not Jim Crowe or Slavery era anymore—Get with the program!!! Stop showing how ignorant you remain to be!!!! …And also stop using Whites as your excuse—Whites aren’t one dropping anymore!!!! …Why not just accept who you are and love yourselves!!! If you did that in the first place, you wouldn’t be trying to claim anything that has African and White in them—It’s not like it will get you closer to being white, so stop doing it!!! …It’s not working–You just look stupid trying to do it…and desperate!!! …You self-haters!

…And when African Americans say that they are all mixed===It sounds like they don’t like being who they are which is black! …It also sounds like they feel left out when true mixed-race people can actually say that they are indeed mixed, while African Americans may have some white & maybe native indian in their lineage, it goes back several generations leaving them still only BLACK….NOT MIXED!!!.

Latina or hispanic are not races. People from Latin America can be white, black, or native. She’s obviously a mix of these, but there are mostly Black Latin Americans if you look at Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic…etc

No, what they said is just common sense. People from latinoamerica can be from any race. You won’t know if someone is from latinoamerica/hispanic unless they open their mouth. But off course this pisses off ignorant amerrukans.

Catherine October 19, 2011 at 3:31 pm

that is so not true…man why are you even writing this stuff when you dont have a clue?. While Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic are latin american countries they are waaay different from the rest, they are often called caribbean countries and yes the ppl tend to be black.

You have other countries that tend to be white: Argentina and Uruguay. People from Paraguay, Bolivia even Chile and part of Peru are mostly native; from Ecuador and Colombia black. It really depends of the country or even the city you are talking about, in the capital you will see a lot of white people but mostly here in Peru, where im from, we are mixed…I really cant tell what i am, ethnicity whise: my grandma is chinesse, my other grandma is black, my grandfather is criollo (mixed) and my other grandad is super white (im talkin blond hair, blue eyes)…and even so I can say that they all are mixed, one way or another.

so what im trying to say is that there isnt really a color skin for people from latin america but i guess what americans consider “latino” is mexican or puerto rican features.

p.s: sorry for the bad english…just wanted to put this out there

See the Census Bureau website if you don’t think “Hispanic” or “Latino” is an actual race.

When are young minded latinos recognize that mixed is mixed , black and afro latino are the same thing like it or not . Now I know your people are very racist when it comes to this subject . But a blak american is the same as a black latino the only different is the language and culture . Just as a mixed person is the same as a mixed latino the same thing. WHo is to say her father could also be mixed or even Afro latino . Mixed is mixed tired of hispanic and latinos , whites trying to make it lilke its a huge difference . Latinos are mixed , European, African or native .

While I want try to speak for everyone else,My mixed bloodline doesn’t go back just several generations, mines is also recent. However,I’m the first to yell that I am a proud Black man. Also as was said,I can read.I don’t have to be from a country to study it.My grandfather was a latino so I study that part of my heritage,as well(the white, chinese, native American)and most important to me,the black part.So your the one speaking about what you don’t know.
