Michaela Pereira is a Canadian television personality. She was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to a Caucasian mother, Dale, and an Afro-Jamaican father, whose origins were from Montego Bay and Cambridge, Saint James Parish.

After being placed for adoption, Michaela was adopted and raised by Ainslie and Doug Thomson, with four other siblings.

About her adopted and biological families, Michaela has stated:

It was, I suppose, an unusual family to grow up in, in the respect that we didn’t look like most families on the prairies of Canada. We are a multicultural family; my parents are Caucasian, my sisters are First Nations and then there is me. I grew up knowing that I was biracial and that on my paternal side, I was Jamaican”.

An Ancestry DNA test taken by Michaela whose results were displayed on Ancestry Blog showed that:

Jamaicans typically have African, Native American (which includes the original inhabitants of Jamaica, the Taino), and European roots, which Michaela has. She is largely Nigerian and Irish. Her trace regions of Italy/Greece, Europe West, and Iberian Peninsula suggest she has Mediterranean roots as well.
