Mercedes McCambridge was an American actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for All the King’s Men (1949).

Mercedes was the daughter of Marie and John Patrick McCambridge, a farmer. Seven of her eight great-grandparents were of Irish descent, with her other great-grandparents being of English and German ancestry. She had a son with her former husband William Fifield.

Mercedes’ paternal grandfather was Patrick McCambridge (the son of John McCambridge and Mary McAllister). Patrick was Irish.
