Mary Wollstonecraft was an English writer, philosopher, and advocate of women’s rights.

Mary was the daughter of Elizabeth (Dixon) and Edward John Wollstonecraft. Her father was born in London, England. Her mother was born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland.

Mary had two children: a daughter, Fanny Imlay, with her partner, American commercial speculator and diplomat Gilbert Imlay; and a daughter, novelist, dramatist, and biographer Mary Shelley, with her husband, journalist and philosopher William Godwin, to whom she was married, until her death.

Mary’s paternal grandfather was Edward Wollstonecraft (the son of Arnold Wollstonecraft and Martha Williamson). Edward was born in St George The Martyr, Surrey, England.

Mary’s paternal grandmother was named Mary Trevett.

Mary’s maternal grandfather was Henry Dixon/Dickson (the son of John Dickson and Everine Delap). Henry was born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland. Everine was the daughter of Robert Delap.
