Martin Balsam was an American actor. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for A Thousand Clowns (1965). He also had leading roles in Psycho (1960), 12 Angry Men (1957), and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, among many other films.

His father, Albert Balsam, was a Russian Jewish immigrant. His mother, Lillian (Weinstein), was born in New York, to Russian Jewish parents.

Martin had a daughter, actress Talia Balsam, with his former wife, actress Joyce Van Patten; and two children with his former wife, Irene Miller. Talia is married to actor John Slattery.

Martin’s paternal grandfather was named Max Balsam.

Martin’s paternal grandmother was named Rosie/Ruth/Rae Fleiser/Flaiser.

Martin’s maternal grandfather was named Israel Weinstein.

Martin’s maternal grandmother was named Sarah Weinstein.
