Mark Warner is an American politician and businessperson. A member of the Democratic Party, he has been a U.S. Senator from Virginia, since January 3, 2009, and Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, since February 3, 2021. He was previously Governor of Virginia, from January 12, 2002 to January 14, 2006, and Chair of the National Governors Association, from July 20, 2004 to July 18, 2005.

Mark is the son of Marjorie (Johnston) and Robert F. Warner. He is married to Lisa Collis, with whom he has three children. He grew up in Illinois and in Vernon, Connecticut.

His maternal grandparents were Canadian.

Mark’s paternal grandfather was named John William Warner (the son of William Warner and Lulu). John was born in Indiana.

Mark’s paternal grandmother was Minnie May Bowers/Bowens (the daughter of Francisco DeSoto Bowers/Bowens and Serepta/Serefta/Senepta Florence Bussell). Minnie was born in Indiana. Francisco was the son of George A. Bowers and Martha Russell. Serepta was the daughter of William Bussell and Cena Kitchen.

Mark’s maternal grandfather was Frank Henry Johnston (the son of David Wesley Johnston and Elizabeth Green). Frank was born in Ontario, Canada, and was of Irish Protestant descent. David was the son of David Johnston and Margaret. Elizabeth was the daughter of Samuel Green and Margaret Plunkett.

Mark’s maternal grandmother was Annie/Ann Marie Irene Gethons (the daughter of John Patrick Gethons and Sarah Julia Morrison). Annie was born in Ontario, Canada. John was born in Canada, to Irish Catholic parents, Patrick Gethons and Sarah Boyd. Mark’s great-grandmother Sarah was born in Canada, to a Scottish father, John Morrison, and to an Irish Catholic mother, Maria Moran.

      Looks like Frank’s entire family was Irish Protestants (Anglicans and Presbyterians). Annie’s was mostly Roman Catholic Irish (minus John Morrison).
