The American singer was born to an Irish mother named Patricia Hickey and a father of Venezuelan and African heritage named Alfred Roy Carey. Mariah stated in an interview that her mother is a third generation Irish American.

im sorry, but i dont care if its one drop rule whatever, its stinkin 2012,that shouldnt be the reason for discriminating the other ethnicities someone has,if someone is black & white, they are basically black & white, not just black & not just white, but both, there is no need for choosing sides, when you can simply be both, because they are,not one or the other.

I think in 2012 America we could call Mariah white and it still be accepted that she has a mixed ancestry of African, native (latino), and Irish, and whatever else she has in her. If not, then America really needs to catch up with the rest of the world.

how the hell can you tell she’s latino, when LATINO IS A FREAKING CULTURE???wth? realllyyy??
and she is not 1/4 black, she is 1/2 black
and it should say she is irish and afro-venezuelan, not irish, african, venezuelan, thats like saying Jay-Z is african, american, instead of african american
her dad is a black man from venezuela, there was a documentary about her family and early life on the bio channel and it stated that her paternal grandfather was a venezuelan of african descent, came too america and changed his name from Nunez to Carey, to feel more closer, and to be accepted by the african american community as there weren’t many afro-hispanics around at the time, now miss mariah claims that her paternal grandmother was venezuelan, and that her dad grew up as an african american, idk why she’s so ashamed of saying that she’s half afro-venezuelan , its not like she’s any less black since thats the race she identifies with the most, but i guess if she did say she’s afro-venezuelan then ignorant people will think she’s only a quarter black smh
