Malcolm Fraser was an Australian politician. He served as Prime Minister of Australia, from 11 November, 1975 to 11 March, 1983. He was also Minister for Defence, from 12 November 1969 to 8 March 1971, Leader of the Opposition, from 21 March 1975 to 11 November 1975, and Leader of the Liberal Party, from 21 March 1975 to 11 March 1983, among other duties.

Prime Minister Fraser was the son of Una (Woolf) and John Neville Fraser. His father was of half Scottish and half Irish descent. His mother was of one half English Jewish, one quarter English, and one quarter Irish, ancestry. Prime Minister Fraser was not aware of his Jewish ancestry until he was an adult.

Prime Minister Fraser was the nephew of Simon Fraser, a rules footballer who played with Essendon and University in the Victorian Football League, and also rowed for Australia at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm.

Prime Minister Fraser’s paternal grandfather was Simon Fraser (the son of William Fraser and Jane Fraser). Simon was born in Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada, and served as a member of the Australian Senate, from 29 March, 1901 to 30 June, 1913. William was born in Beauly, Inverness, Scotland, the son of William Fraser and Marion MacKinnon. Jane was the daughter of Donald Fraser, who was born in West River, Nova Scotia, Canada, and of Elizabeth, who was Scottish.

Prime Minister Fraser’s paternal grandmother was Anne Collins (the daughter of John Collins and Mary Ann Martin). John and Mary Ann were Irish immigrants from County Cork, Ireland. Mary Ann was the daughter of Robert Martin.

Prime Minister Fraser’s maternal grandfather was Louis Arnold Woolf (the son of Louis Woolf and Esther Reuben). Prime Minister Fraser’s grandfather Louis was Jewish, and was born in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. Prime Minister Fraser’s great-grandfather Louis was born in Kent, England, the son of Aaron Woolf and Julia Phillips. Esther was born in Sydney, Australia, to English Jewish parents, Henry Robert Reuben and Hannah Solomon.

Prime Minister Fraser’s maternal grandmother was Amy Booth (the daughter of John Booth and Sarah Ann Maria Smith). John was born in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, England, the son of Thomas Bonner Booth and Jane Stevenson. Sarah was born in Dublin, Ireland, the daughter of Charles Smith and Sarah.
