MADONNA is an american with mixed european heritage

but still she was always the ITALIAN AMERICAN girl from next door

and she even wore shirt ITALIANS DO IT BETTER

neiltennant July 4, 2017 at 3:19 pm

ITS FUNNY that all of those italian american celebrities and superstars like

MADONNA, LADY GAGA, BON JOVI, DE NIRO, SPRINGSTEEN, TRAVOLTA etc. are all mixed but say in every interview that they are proud of their italian heritage

madman July 4, 2017 at 3:24 pm

All but one of the celebrities you mentioned have Italian surnames by birth. That probably affects their identity to a large degree.

lisa78419 September 16, 2017 at 7:00 pm

you don’t have to be full Italian to say you are proud of your Italian heritage. most of those celebs are dominantly Italian and that’s what they mean. I also am dominantly Italian and I say I’m proud of it

neiltennant May 30, 2018 at 12:57 pm

I THINK growing up in the 90s MADONNA was the most italian thing ever haha

andrew September 15, 2016 at 6:07 pm
neiltennant June 22, 2016 at 11:30 am

INTERESTING that most people and especially celebs who are only part italian are seen as italian

all are part italian but identity is FULL ITALIAN

MADONNA wearing often ITALIANS DO IT BETTER shirts 1985-88

savanna June 22, 2016 at 1:24 pm

Madonna does acknowledge her Italian side more, but she has talked about her French side too.

Lady Gaga is the worst offender of this. She claims her “entire family” is from Italy. Even though her maternal grandfather was not Italian.

neiltennant June 22, 2016 at 2:23 pm

i think most italians are very nationalistic and very ITALY-LOVING people

most italian-americans are proud of their language their awesome food and more

Assimilation is not as easy for them

bablah June 22, 2016 at 3:08 pm

Leo stated several times that his mother is Russian. How is that ”identifiying as full Italian”?
On the other hand De Niro never really acknowledged the fact that he is only quarter Italian.

follers June 22, 2016 at 3:54 pm

Are you sure? Has he ever referred to himself as just Italian, without mentioning some of the other ancestry?

andrew June 22, 2016 at 4:02 pm

He even claimed to have Albanian ancestry.

bablah June 23, 2016 at 4:34 am

for someone whose most iconic portrayals are Italian characters (-Taxi Driver and Goodfellas), he sure evades talking about it.

follers June 23, 2016 at 5:08 am

In Goodfellas, DeNiro played James “Jimmy the Gent” Conway, an Irish-American. In Taxi Driver, he played Travis Bickle, and I don’t think there’s evidence that Bickle was supposed to be of Italian descent.

Unless you were trying to say something else with “-“, although it’s hard to tell.

Anyway, he really hasn’t played that many Italians. I’m sure it’s less than one fourth of all his roles, which makes sense.

andrew June 23, 2016 at 6:23 am

one of the most remarkable of recent Bob’s roles is the Wasp Jack Byrnes of Meet the Parents

neiltennant August 12, 2018 at 1:45 pm

but that is the problem with it
because of the italian names they are casted in asian american roles

you dont have to be italian american you know such a name

follers June 22, 2016 at 3:54 pm

What makes you say that Travolta, DiCaprio, and Ricci identify as full Italian? Travolta has said his household was more Irish in culture, and Ricci has said that the Italian has been “bred out of her”.

andrew June 22, 2016 at 4:04 pm

Yes, they’re not like Pauly D.!

follers June 22, 2016 at 4:04 pm

Right, they’re not fully of Italian descent.

andrew June 22, 2016 at 5:38 pm
follers June 22, 2016 at 5:54 pm

Of course, neither is Pauly D. He’s black, blacketty, black, black, black. His mother is keeping a secret, and his grandmother is Alessia Cara. (By the way, why is it that you think so many Italian women are having affairs with black men? Is it possible then that they’re having affairs with other non-Italian men, too?).

andrew June 22, 2016 at 6:00 pm

isn’t Alessia too young to be Pauly’s grandma??

savanna May 12, 2016 at 11:50 am

Can you note that she played Eva Perón in the 1996 film Evita.

savanna April 25, 2016 at 2:54 pm

Madonna’s parents names are Silvio Anthony “Tony” Ciccone and Madonna Louise Fortin.

savanna January 1, 2016 at 8:11 pm

where is the Spanish on her mother’s side from?

“On her mom’s side she is a descendant of Marie Theriault who was descendent from Ferdinand and Isabelle threw their daughter Juana.”

savanna December 2, 2015 at 4:48 am

That’s interesting, she uses a lot of Spanish influences in her music and image and she likes Spanish men.. I wonder if she knows about this part of her heritage

MettaWorkPlease September 14, 2016 at 11:07 am

She also slept with alot of black men & might she have some black in her?

lisa78419 March 8, 2015 at 2:10 pm

those are Spanish first names but the last name is Theriault which is still a French name. Who knows?

You are all ignorant. I’m Sicilian and i’ve got blonde hair, very pale skin and green eyes and here there are a lot of people like me cause Sicily was invaded by Vikings. So don’t say that Sicilian people are all dark cause it’s not true!!! Stop with stereotypes!!!

Adrian1Cram February 12, 2016 at 10:32 pm

The closer you are to the equator the darker people tend to get so on average sicilians are darker then most italians considering how south they are.

neiltennant August 12, 2018 at 1:47 pm

thats true

i know a lot of italians living in germany most of them sicilian

all of them have green or blue eyes

the punisher December 3, 2013 at 11:53 am

Only an Italian person would say she has more Italian than English Tipical complex

andrew December 3, 2013 at 3:06 pm

she never stated to be English, she’s Italian and French-Canadian. Catholic. Anything English

Alice August 24, 2014 at 8:13 pm

French-Canadians are quite a mixed population. There are lots of Irish and Scots mixed in there as well.

Alice August 24, 2014 at 8:21 pm

As an example

Many French Canadian surnames are derived from the names of Irish settlers from this time (e.g. Sullivan to Sylvain, O’Brien to Aubry, Moran to Morin).

So it is not a stretch to think that Madonna might have some English (or other) ancestry.

toropesci March 28, 2013 at 5:56 am

SHE HAS ITALIAN LOOK !!! , in fact she look like PAOLA BARALE ( italian actress )
LOOK on google image PAOLA BARALE… V.V
I’m italian and i live in italy, however we Europeans all look alike! my sicilian friend look like Avril lavigne … xD

COOLGUY2012 November 20, 2013 at 6:01 pm

Italians are part south and central europeans, what so surprising about it? Sicilians got norman and northern italian descent, that´s why many of them look like your average italian. Even though all europeans are white, some of them probably wouldn´t pass in other countries so easily, like for instance, iberians look different from greeks, germans, swedish.

andrew January 25, 2013 at 10:36 am

“her” dad sorry

andrew January 25, 2013 at 10:35 am

His dad comes from a region in centre Italy, Abruzzo.

they “emansipate” themselves: they should show their naked
briests like her! ha-ha-ha

nnnnn August 29, 2012 at 12:54 pm

“Typical italian with blue eyes” LOL

COOLGUY2012 September 20, 2012 at 3:15 pm

Madonna looks like average northern italian (descendants of romans). Southern ones look more like greeks (mediterraneans).

nnnnn March 1, 2013 at 10:29 am

Yes, Trapattoni (football couch) has blue eyes, too.
But, neverthess, it’s not “typicall italian”. Even
north italians have most brown. South Tirol (people
of austrian descent, actually) have most green eyes

neiltennant June 22, 2016 at 2:18 pm

Italians normally don’t have blue eyes and blonde hair

I know 6 italian women from calabria, rome and sicily and they have steel blue eyes

but after conversations i found out, that their ancestors include people from austria or germany !!

TRAPATTONI has also blue eyes but i found out that he has austrian ancestors

as a child i knew this guy was italian and i thought italians do have blue eyes

but via internet research i found out that his mother was austrian

so come on and stop with the claim that the average italian is white and has blue eyes

bablah June 22, 2016 at 3:19 pm

Damn neiltennant, you sure do know a lot of people. And the first thing they want to talk about when they meet you is their family tree.
Funny how all six of those south Italian women have German ancestors. What a funny coincidence. Those Jerries must have been on some sex tour of southern Italy fathering babies left and right.

andrew June 22, 2016 at 3:43 pm

@ neiltennant

How do you know Trapattoni has “Austrian” ancestors? His parents were Romilda Bassani and Francesco Trapattoni. I never heard anything about that. I added a lot of profiles of Italians (check out Lippi, De Rossi, Armani, Bova etc) and many are blue-eyed without having German or Austrian ancestry. Blue eyes are found in Italian people since Roman Times, and before Barbaric invasions.

neiltennant June 23, 2016 at 9:09 am

stop making fun of me

I know those women over the years and i wondered about their blue eyes

they have either german or austrian descent

i read an article about trappatoni that he had austrian blood

CiCi617 June 12, 2012 at 12:11 am

MADONNA LOOKS ALL ITALIAN! Look at her pictures from when she was a child with brown hair. Her father and my great grandmother were both Ciccones & related. I’m 100% Italian. My father has black hair olive skin brown eyes & a roman nose. My mom was born in Italy & shes white blue eyes brown hair. The only dark Italians R from Sicily and a few in the southern areas since there mixed Arab like my father. Northern Italy like Milan the women R taller 5’7″ lighter complexion. No way in hell she looks Irish, Irish ppl have that pasty white color with freckles.

neiltennant June 22, 2016 at 2:19 pm

shut up idiot

she has also irish and english ancestors…

the regular average italian guy has not blue eye

sadie March 28, 2012 at 8:53 pm

Madonna is hideous, gross, and a pig.

christian March 24, 2012 at 5:33 pm

madonna looks more french canadian+ english like her late mother

but her father with his blonde hair and blue/grey eyes doesn’t look like a typical italian

as only 10 percent of italians have this combination,

therefore it could be that her father is mixed too (italian + irish??)

Angel Syrene April 4, 2012 at 7:58 pm

IGK 3 April 4, 2012 at 10:09 pm

she’s has english roots. enought said.

CiCi617 June 12, 2012 at 12:12 am

News flash Northern Italians are WHITE. Southern Italians are dark because they mixed with the Greeks & Arabs.

neiltennant June 22, 2016 at 2:21 pm

what a fuck do you tell us ??

racist piece of shit

there is not a theory about sicily-people

over the years i met more people with sicilian descent with blue eyes than those of northern italian descent

the simple theory south= dark + north= white does not work

I love you, Roger Scientist March 8, 2012 at 7:29 pm

I like her music, but she grosses me out.

I saw a younger picture of her and her hair was really dark and wavy.

madonna fan August 15, 2011 at 6:37 pm

But most of american actresses got the English look better than Madonna.

madonna fan August 15, 2011 at 6:36 pm

Did you realize she really has the english look, mostly english with a hint of italian and french, a bit swiss, but english english?.

JL August 4, 2011 at 1:22 pm

For her mother’s French Canadian side Madonna’s family tree is at

Her family tree starts here:

She is a descendant of Pierre Miville who is Swiss here:

She has English ancestry through Priscilla Melanson here:

So Madonna’s father is full Italian as far back as we know & on her mother is French Canadian with mostly French descent with some Swiss & English ancestry.

Madonna is Italian, French, Swiss, English.

ethnic August 5, 2011 at 8:11 pm

nice find JL thanks.

JL August 5, 2011 at 9:26 pm

No problem, glad I could help :)

Also can you update Celine Dion’s ethnicity, I wrote a comment with her confirmed French Canadian background. Celine is predominantly French from France, & has some Scottish, Swiss, Portuguese, and Algonquin (native) ancestry.

jojo July 16, 2011 at 12:09 am

I may sound ignorant asking this but… what’s the difference between French Canadians and the French from France, other than French Canadians are from Canada?

Jasmine May 31, 2011 at 8:50 pm

Cool. I consider Italians white some people don’t but I do. Madonna is obviously a white woman.

felicia September 15, 2011 at 10:00 pm

So are italians Go to italy italian people there are way different the the ones in america

Katja May 31, 2011 at 9:05 am

It’s pronounced Se-cone-EE, I go to the same high school Madonna went to (Rochester Adams) and when they talk about her that’s how pronounce it, claimimg she always had a fit when it was pronounced wrong.

Mumy October 31, 2010 at 6:59 pm

is it me or is almost everyone italian, irish, german, french?

felicia September 15, 2011 at 10:01 pm

Yeah their all European And europeans are who make up 75% or more of the poulation

Amala September 12, 2010 at 3:38 am

How do you pronounce that surname? just curious…

ethnic September 23, 2010 at 7:31 pm

I think its pronounced Chi-ko-ni

anna September 24, 2010 at 6:49 am

No,you have to pronunce the e at the end as an italian pronunciation,so it’ like the english “a”,not the english “e”

mgh August 15, 2011 at 12:03 pm

The E at the end of her last name is pronounced like “eh”. For example, when you say the word “Everything” it’s that E sound at the very beginning of the word.

Lexii August 26, 2010 at 8:51 am

She’s only half Italian. Her other half is what saved her.

anna September 24, 2010 at 6:51 am

yeah, but her italian influence are stronger then the candians.
and she always refer herself as an Italian american…almost in every interview

felicia September 15, 2011 at 10:02 pm

What A pointless coversation shut up who cares Europeans are all the same

eee February 14, 2012 at 9:01 am

Sillau October 20, 2011 at 11:42 pm

White is not a race dum ass all the people you consider white are either irish, deutch, italian, german, welsh, french, cicilian, lithuania,English, romananian,And many more. And when they live in america over 100 yrs their considered white which they are.

Anonymiss September 23, 2010 at 7:11 pm

Dear Ethnic,

Just a little heads up. Celebs sharing the same heritage is not the same if a person is French-Canadian, like Madonna and then have a French person from France, like Edith Piaf or Catherine Deneuve.

It would be like equating Puerto Ricans with Spaniards. Yes, the roots may be the same but FC & PR are mixed in with native, indigenous North Americans for over 400 yrs.

So Avril and Celine would be the ones with similar heritage, not Catherine.

Thank you.

ethnic September 23, 2010 at 7:27 pm

Thanks Anonymiss, good point.
