Luis García-Berlanga was a Spanish film director and screewriter. In 1986, he received the Prince of Asturias Award for Arts, and in 1993, the Goya Award for Best Director, for Everyone to Jail! His film Plácido was nominated in 1961 for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Luis was married to María Jesus Manrique de Aragón, with whom he had four children, including Spanish singer and songwriter Carlos Berlanga.

Luis was the son of José García-Berlanga Pardo and Amparo Martí Alegre.

Luis’ paternal grandparents were Fidel García Berlanga and María Engracia Pardo Gabaldón. They were from Camporrobles, Valencia.

Luis’ maternal family were from Teruel, Aragón
