Louis’s paternal grandfather was a Hungarian Jewish immigrant to Mexico. Louis’s paternal grandmother was Mexican-born, Catholic, and had Spanish and Indigenous ancestry. Louis has said that his paternal grandfather did not tell his paternal grandmother that he was Jewish (until, presumably, a later stage in their relationship). Louis’s father was raised Catholic, and so was Louis. Later in life, Louis’s father converted to Judaism, the faith of Louis’s stepmother.

Louis’s mother had Irish, German, and English ancestry. She was raised Catholic.

i tired of all these ignorant people like honestly STFU

  3. AnonymousPerson says:

Please he is not Mexican. He looks white as hell.

  4. leslie2 says:

Yes he is mexican, but Mexican is NOT A RACE. it’s an nationality.

If his grandmother is half Indigenous Mexican, half Spanish) and his grandfather is Ashkenazi-Hungarian(white) Jew, that makes their sound mostly Jewish. He would actually be 3/4 Ashkenazi=Hungarian Jew, his father, and 1/4 Half Spanish-Half indigenous Mexican., thus Making Louis Mexican-American, of (approx) 38% Ashkenazi-Hungarian Jew, 1/8(12%) Spanish-Indigenous(Mexican), and 50% Irish-American.

His father is 3/4 Hungarian-Jew, 25% Spanish-Indigenous, Born in Mexico. (His fathers father is not mixed atall, thus making him mostly of that race)

Mexican is not a separate race, it is a nationality as they have different racial groups and different mixes. Just like in Canada or America, you are not automatically Mestizo or mixed with Native American just for being born there. I think it’s important to know that.

There are all kinds of Mexicans, not just Mestizos.

With Louis C.K. looks almost 100% fairskinned Irish, I am certain his Indigenous Ancestry is very low, and probably about right (1/8th). If you did not tell me he had Indigenous roots, I would have thought he was a 100% Irish-American.

His father is of half Hungarian Jewish descent. The other half is Mexican non-Jewish. So his father is not “three quarters Jewish”.

    • ellie says:

mexican can also be a race too. unlike canada & the US they are mixed with every culture American &canadians are a melting pot. which means they are from many cultures people from all over the world came to america uncluding mexicans. so that’s why american & canadian are not considered as race or ethnicity. unless you’re pure native american . america is a land of immigrants on other hand mexicans kept their own identity and not too mixed with cultures they are native and considered Mexicans. PS spanish has nothing to do with that just cuz main language or took over mexico

    • Rip says:

You’re over-analyzing it. Mexican is a nationality/cultural affiliation. His father was Mexican born and culturally Mexican, that’s why Louis identifies as half Mexican.

    • marjanel says:

The most sure is that his grandmother is not 50 % Spanish and %50 indigenous. Most mestizos are not like that, to find a mestizo half and haf is very difficult. They are more Spanish or more Indigenous

    • EatEricRoberts says:

Yes, Mexican is a nationality. Ergo, he is not Mexican. He is American.

  5. leslie2 says:

Just because someone is Mexican doesn’t mean they are Mestizo ( half Spanish half Indigenous Mexican) They could be white-Mexican, Arab-Mexican, Asian-Mexican or born in Europe and then immigrated to Mexico. Its too much of a generalization to say every Mexican is Half or full Indigenous when that is not true. Infact, Like in America,Australia,Canada, and other places, the Indigenous face alots of racism and noone wants them to be apart of society.

    • follers says:

Louis C.K. stated that his Mexican grandmother was of Spanish and Indigenous descent in this interview.

I can not vouch for the claim genealogically, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

      • leslie2 says:

Could be, nothing wrong with looking but I do believe that one needs significant proof/documentation, otherwise it is all myth, and Native American = from America. What he really means/people mean is that is half Spanish-half Indigenous American. If we go by without facts/proof, I can say whatever I am and I am that race then right? LOL
I think he is just going by a general American view of Mexicans, which is half Spanish/mixed, which is not true, because not all are.

He should just refer to himself as Mexican until there is absolute proof of his claims, and the indigenous do have different tribes as well, just like Canada and America, so I find it hard to believe that if that is the case, he does not know her tribe or where she came from.

Almost all Natives no matter where they are from know their tribe and identify as that, and all come from different regions of Mexico, Canada, America, NewZealand,Brazil, etc, and all tribes and different areas, have different ways of doing this, and living.

Also, how is he 25% if his grandmother is half? that would make him 1/8 and his mother would be 1/4 Spanish-Indigenous. :) Please change that.

        • leslie2 says:

          Half indigenous-Mexican

          His grandmother is*

          • follers says:

            “*25% Mexican (Spanish, Indigenous American)”

Louis’s paternal grandmother was Mexican (as he says, of Spanish and Indigenous descent), so he is 1/4 Mexican.

        • fbwfeiwb says:

He most likely has Native American ancestry. I think we can pretty much assume that he does. Even the White Mexicans would have some Native American ancestry.

Or, maybe his grandmother has recent Native American ancestry. Maybe she has a Native American mother or father.

Let’s just assume that he has SOME Native American ancestry, because it’s likely.

        • fbwfeiwb says:

Also, I think just by looking at his grandmother, we could tell if she was part Native or not. Maybe she looks part Native.
