Lawrence Lessig is an American academic, political activist, and attorney. He was Director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University, from 2009 to 2015.

He was a candidate for the Democratic Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 2016.

He is married to German-born, Bettina Neuefeind, with whom he has three children.

Lawrence’s paternal grandfather was Lester L. Lessig (the son of Christian J. Lessig and Clara A. Hummel). Lester was born in Pennsylvania. Christian was the son of Michael Lessig and Harriet.

Lawrence’s paternal grandmother was Katherine Eve Keen (the daughter of Charles Edwin Lincoln Keen and Margaret May Dietrich). Katherine was born in Pennsylvania. Charles was the son of John Henry Keen and Mary Ann Mees/Mace.

Lawrence’s maternal grandfather was William Conover West (the son of Lawrence Bates West and Grace Conover). William was born in Indiana. Grace was the daughter of Norton Conover and Ella Christine Harris.

Lawrence’s maternal grandmother was Kitty Margaret Blevins (the daughter of James Blevins and Anna Shalliday). Kitty was born in Tennessee. Anna was the daughter of Martin Shalliday and Margaret Morrison.
