She is nicknamed “Laurie,” “Baby Shakira,” and “The Human Emoji.”

She has said:

I would definitely say I identify as Afro-Latina especially with these kinky curls… It’s definitely something my family and I have learned growing up looking at our family tree and something that I’ve continued to learn about that kind of bleeds through my mom. But having both grandparents [maternal and paternal] being born in Puerto Rico, my parents being born in NYC, and me in New Jersey and being second generation Puerto Rican, it’s something that I own and I used to be afraid of it, but now I realize that it’s become like a superpower. It’s the coolest thing ever.

That’s hilarious. Its mostly because she’s American and was forced that label upon her. People in Puerto Rico or Latin America in general would not see her as Afro Latina. She is simply tri-racial. People around the world would just see her as a multiracial woman. I’m even told that a lot of people in Latin America dont even use terms like “Afro Latina”. America is also forcing the “LatinX” label which is supposed to include “gender non-binary” latinos which doesn’t even make sense.
