She was the daughter of Gilda (Mirsky) and Louis Nigro. Her paternal grandfather was Italian, and her other grandparents were Ashkenazi Jewish. She had a son with her former partner Harindra Singh.
Laura’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Nigro (the son of Michael Nigro and Carmela Marinacco). Joseph was Italian, born in Napoli.

I would like to see Laura Nyro’s family tree. Wikipedia says she has some Polish ancestry, but I haven’t seen it from any other source. Her father had Italian heritage and her mother Russian Jewish, so I don’t know which side of the family any Polish ancestry came from.
