Larry Pressler is an American politician. As a member of the Republican Party, he was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from South Dakota, from January 3, 1975 to January 3, 1979, and a U.S. Senator from South Dakota, from January 3, 1979 to January 3, 1997. He is now an independent.

He was a candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 1980.

Larry is the son of Loretta Genevieve (Claussen) and Antone Lewis Pressler. He is married to Harriet, and has a daughter.

Larry’s paternal grandfather was Reinhardt/Reihold Pressler (the son of Fredrick Pressler and Henriette/Henrietta). Reinhardt was German.

Larry’s paternal grandmother was Mary Gertrude Douvier (the daughter of Antone Douvier and Catherine Gallagher). Mary was born in Illinois. Antone was French, the son of Florens Dovier and Gertrude Fise. Catherine was of Irish descent, the daughter of Hugh Gallagher and Catherine Turney.

Larry’s maternal grandfather was William Claussen (the son of Peter Claussen and Caly Hanno). William was German.

Larry’s maternal grandmother was Caroline Sanny (the daughter of George Sanny and Matilda Younk Clause). Caroline was German.
