Kiana Ledé is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and pianist. She is also known as Kiana Brown. She has appeared on the series Scream and All About the Washingtons, and, in voice role, in the film Next Gen.

Kiana is the daughter of Shakira and Michael Brown. Her mother is pictured here.

Kiana is said to have part Native American ancestry. It is not clear if this is accurate.

Kiana’s paternal grandfather was Michael E. Brown, Sr. (the son of Semerian B. Brown, Jr. and Estella Valentine). Michael was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. Semerian was the son of The Rev. Semerian Billion Brown, Sr. and Docia Mae/May Jones. Estella was the daughter of Louis Valentine and Ida B. Robinson.

Kiana’s paternal grandmother is named Cheryl M. Johnson.

Kiana’s maternal grandfather was Mexican. She has said, “…my grandfather was deported back to Mexico before my mom was born. Growing up in Phoenix, I was surrounded by my culture and could understand just enough but was never taught the language fluently because I never got the chance to know my family.”

Kiana’s maternal grandmother was Nancy Dale Norman (the daughter of Robert Norman and Norma Berg). Nancy was born in New Jersey. Robert was the son of Harry/Henry R. Norman, whose paternal grandparents were Irish, and whose mother was Scottish, likely with Irish ancestry; and of Estelle Weaver, who was of English, French, Irish, and Dutch descent. Norma was the daughter of Theodore Berg, who was Swedish, and of Olga Olsen, who was Norwegian.

Alone in her room with nothing but a keyboard, her voice, and a mixture of records, both old and new, Ledé harnessed her time to tap into the rich musical history of her diverse family heritage. A true mix of cultures, African, Swedish, Latino and Native American, Kiana spent years creating her own unique vocal sound into a natural blend of these global, expressive influences.

Of all the pictures you could have used…THIS is the best you could do? This is probably the most whitewashed and just plain unflattering picture that has ever been released of her.
