FOR some of your guys information, who all say your or she is black, your african amercian, meaning what??
    where are your roots from??

Exactly, Black is just a color, you saying black makes her sound, like charcoal dark, shes brown/light skinned,
get educated people. She has an african american descent background. like all other people who say im just black.

    sad sad sad..

other than that, she’s beautiful, and she does have a mixed background, All African americans do, that stay in the U.S.

Well there is no such thing as a “pure race” – everyone is mixed. Race is more a question of identity than biology – she identifies as African-American. Therefore, that’s what she is.

Prettkoolz, I totally agree that darkskinned women are just as beautiful.I understand what you’re saying about people getting mad because its like attributing someone’s beauty to the fact that they are not only black. When I say someone is pretty I am looking at their actual facial features and how they compliment each other. Skin color and hair are separate to me because I don’t consider those to be things significant enough to make a person more or less beautiful. Someone who is lightskinned and/or has curly hair can have an ugly face. Skin and hair cannot make someone beautiful. Pretty is pretty and ugly is ugly no matter what skin color or hair texture and length.

Lol this is too funny. why dont you argue like this on white people’s borads? hmm? say “oooh she is tan. she is black and she knows it”. black people (like all other ethnicites) have a variety of colors. “unmixed” black people(nor Africans) are all dark skinned. the idea that anyone thinks that is And FYI for you non educated folk….many ethiopians are light skinned so it quit possible is has ethiopian ancestry. So black people can be light/dark/brown and several hues in between. Im so irritated at the notion that all blacks are mixed. No there are not many black people who dont have heritage other than african somewhere in the lineage but this does not make them mixed! once again white people do not consider this grounds to call themselves “mixed” so stop harrassing black people when they have light skin.

Oh and P.S. black people dont all have big noses, big lips, and big booties. Not all of them can dance and not all of them eat fried chicken. Do you realize white people can have pointy noises or broad noses? yes, because we are a melting pot nation they could have some black ancestry, but they wouldnt claim it anyway. lol

SILKYBLK, that is so true. My maternal grandfather is 6′5 tall dark brown curly coarse haired man with Native American and Southern England Descent. His mother is NativeAmerican and his father was was Southern England. My maternal grandmother is NativeAmerican, Jamican, and Mexican American. Also my paternal grandfather is NativeAmerican,IrishAmerican and French. Does that make me less African American? I think not. For those who know there history on here, everyone is from Africa, and over the centuries many tribes migrated to different parts of the world because the earths axis rotated and the weather changed in Africa, so they had to migrated. For those on here who don’t read or like to know real history as opposed to throwing around the black card or african american card. A little education will go along way. There are black, brown, dark brown, light brown, tan, olive and yellow toned, red (aka) colored people of many nations and these many nations migrated to different areas of land and interwined with other each other. Ethopians are reddish-brown with curly hair. Does that make them any less african? Watch the history channel sometimes maybe some of you who have issue with the terminology of what defines a person as an african american or BLACK can learn something. Many Black skinned toned people from various nations would just laugh at some of you who call yourself black but your so easily to call a Black skinned person dark. Its a form of humiliation. Also if you have issues with addressing other nationalities, you should also be warned that there are many barbarians who molested and raped people from various tribes, be careful about the information your intaking or calling yourself to be a knowledge of. Oh yeah many Native Americans are brown toned for those of you who don’t know. Being proud doesn’t mean denying other heritages that come from Africa, but acknowledging and being proud of all your heritages. I know I am, are you? Such and insult wouldn’t you think. OPEN your minds.

It is often a surprise for people to learn that,
in reality, there is actually No Such Thing
As a “Light Skinned Black” person.

The term “Light Skinned Black” is really nothing more
than a racist oxymoron that was created by racial
Supremacists in an effort to forcibly deny those
Mixed-Race individuals, who are of what is referred
    to as being a Multi-Generational Multiracially-Mixed
(MGM-Mixed) Lineage, the right to fully embrace and
to also receive public support in choosing to acknowledge
the truth regarding their complete ancestral heritage.

The people who have been slapped with the false label and
oxymoronic misnomer of “Light Skinned Black” person are
simply Mixed-Race individuals — who are from families
which have became and have remained continually
    Mixed-Race throughout their multiple generations.

It should also be noted that no one is saying that having
a light skin complexion is the ‘only’ or even a ‘required’
proof of being of a continuously Mixed-Race lineage.

What is simply being said here is that it is just one
of the clearly-visible and openly undeniable forms
of proof that a person is of a Mixed-Race lineage.

when u TAKE A LOOK AT PPL IN AFRICA who are not mixed u will see that they don’t look like keri hilson.
maybe one of her grandparents was white but both of her parents identified as black.

I CAN ASSURE U: it is impossible she looks like that without plastic surgery or some white ancestry.

i agree not all blacks have the same shade of colour. ppl from west and south africa are usually darker and have bigger noses and lips then those in the east like ethiopia and eritrea
(unfortunately we don’t accept difference but always have to judge what’s better or more beautiful).

but still there’s no one there who is THAT LIGHT.
for that reason in keri’s genes must be for 100% something else.

but why should she consider herself as MIXED when she was raised by parents who CONSIDERED THEMSELVES both as black?

it doesn’t make sense to tell everyone: I’m mixed, my great grandfather was irish….

please next time a thought pops into ur silly head take some time and think about it.

    quote:

the northeastern-African — that is, the Ethiopian and Somali — populations are located centrally between sub-Saharan African and non-African populations.

The fact that the Ethiopians and Somalis have a subset of the sub-Saharan African haplotype diversity — and that the non-African populations have a subset of the diversity present in Ethiopians and Somalis — makes simple-admixture models less likely; rather, these observations support the hypothesis proposed by other nuclear-genetic studies (Tishkoff et al. 1996a, 1998a, 1998b; Kidd et al. 1998) — that populations in northeastern Africa may have diverged from those in the rest of sub-Saharan Africa early in the history of modern African populations and that a subset of this northeastern-African population migrated out of Africa and populated the rest of the globe. These conclusions are supported by recent mtDNA analysis (Quintana-Murci et al. 1999).

Whoever said Ethiopians are white are hella wrong, my best friend whom is like a sister to me, is Ethiopian and considers herself balck, and gets very angry when people insists Ethiopians are white. The only reason Ethiopians are considered white is because they have “caucasoid” features it has absolutely nothing to do with their DNA. Also Somalis are not white, I hang out with a lot of Africans all my best friends are Africans. I am Latin, Native American, African and European but i consider myself African American.

judging from her complexion and that she is from america there is a very high possibillity that she has european ancestry whether she knows it or not, yep shes ‘black’ but the description black is a very vague same as the term ‘white’.she most definatley has the more dominant african gene .Judging her to 90% of afrcians from the continent (NOT NORTH) you can clearly see a difference. There’s two many ‘proud n black’ peaple on this site to associate this beautiful lady with someone of european ancestry of which is highly possible .

LMAO @ Lame! you sound like my light skinned cousins. When someone even insinuates that they are mixed they are ready to fight!

I asked them why they get mad and they said that they hate when people do that b/c it makes them seem like their not good enough to be black. I told them that almost every AA no matter what colour they are have some kind of mixture do to slavery, and that they shouldn’t care what other people say. For as long as they know who they are, then nothing else should matter.

Some guy at my school called my friends worsem azz sister mixed and she got historical!
she said she’s not no d@mn mixed b!tch(her words not mine!)

(both of her parents and grandparents on both sides are dark skinned).

Ppl might not know this but “SOME” light skins get highly upset at this type of ish! So I’d be careful before saying stuff like this to them! lol TRUST ME!

@ BeautyJo Yeah I have a friend that’s Ethiopian too and she is the same way! IDK how some people think they are what they call n LMAO @ this…”DARK SKINNED CAUCASIANS” LOL when I call her that she gets pissed, lol she says she’s more “AFRICAN” then I am!

p.s. I hope i didn’t offend anyone who is mixed. That’s not my character. I have way too many mixed relatives to be prejudice. lol

p.s.s. Long time no talk Ethnic! Hows it goin?

@ Fuzzybear lol glad to see that the light skins around me aren’t the only 1z who do that! lol thank God!

But yeah it’s hell to pay if you ask them or insinuate it, and sometimes quite embarrassing.

One time I was with my extended family in walmart and this woman was talking to the older women of the group(my mom and aunties) and telling them how well mannered and polite we were and how we were a pretty family and all that jazz.

Well as the rest of us (my brothers, boy and girl cousins and our uncle) talked and what not, my lil cousin (18yrs) the only light skinned in the group of like 15(yes we roll like that! lol we were dump!) called out for her mom. Well my auntie didn’t hear her and the woman was like “She is a very pretty girl!” Well when she walked over to us and said mom again and my auntie answered the look on the woman’s face was priceless! She was like….”This is your daughter?!”

lmao she was completely shocked! My auntie was like yeah, and everyone was looking at her like what the h3ll’s that suppose to mean?

She was like “Well…she’s lighter then the rest of you! Is your father white?”(I kid you not! Ppl here don’t giva d@mn and don’t think b4 they say shyt!) The funny thing is her dad is also dark skinned and was with us. He was like “No I’m her father!”

Everyone was like no the hell she didn’t! lol

I was like “Oh shyt! We finna end up on news channel 5!” LMAO

The woman quickly changed it and was like “I’m so sorry it’s just that…She’s so light compared to you two!”

My lil cousin lost it and was loud with the shyt! Thank God she did other wise my aunties would’ve tried to kill that woman. We literally had to leave our items and go. It was sooooo embarrassing!

So apparently the woman didn’t think that dark skinned ppl could have light skinned kids. How ignorant she was!

I felt bad for the woman though, but I will admit she should really think b4 she say shyt!

i guess i’m mixed too since i’m lighter than keri…..NOT!!my mom is a little darker than keri and my dad is like diddy. the way your parents look don’t alway determine how you look. my little brother is really light, like chris brown and my little sister is like oprah…we’re all completely different shades. yes all black americans(slave descent)are mixed w/ white and/or native but that doesn’t mean your mixed.mixed is only labeled for half and half of 2 races. and stop being racist!!!

eritrea-in-my-heart – You may be from Eritrea or have the place in your heart but you have no idea about Africa. Though you may only see one or two groups of people rest assured that there are people of all shades found on the continent. I guarantee! Even in West Africa. Many Senegalese for example have straight noses but really dark skin. Many Ethiopians are as black as the actual color. You will find tons of Black South Africans who are fair in complexion as well as a darker shade. My point is you can’t generalize. There are far too many African on the continent and unfortunately, you just haven’t been exposed. They come in all shade of the rainbow just like African Americans. So back to Ms. Keri….she could be just as African as perhaps…you…or one of the people on the continent for that matter.

And if she identifies herself as a black woman, where is your problem ??? it’s her life . And maybe she’s 100% black, who knows ???
    OH YEAH, you lauren !!!!
You said you know genetics and according to you lauren, keri hilson is not genetically black: did you make a DNA analyse of keri hilson in order to know her origins ??? If you did it, I’ll be glad to see the results with you while i’m kissing your ass LMFAO!!!!!

Your father is african … from which country exactly ??
I ask because my parents are both african, from cameroon, so i know a lot about cameroon.
i know a lot of things about ther other african countries, but it could be a few conceited if i say i know so much about the whole africa because my parents are african!!!
Besides, if you know so much about africa, you would agree with me when i say that some africans (not mixed) can have the same features and complextion as keri hilson’s, and i say it because i saw it by myself !!
Anyway you’re major in anthropology and genetics, congrats !!! You must know CHEIKH ANTA DIOP, don’t you??
But when you say that keri hilson is mixed, do you mean she’s half black half white or she has a percentage of white DNA ??
Because i think that even if you’re black with a percentage of white blood, it doesn’t mean that you’re mixed (half and half) exept if this percentage equals 50% or more.
Personally my great great grand father was german,so i got 6,25% of german blood, does it mean that i’m mixed ??? i don’t think so
If I think that i’m not black because of that we can call that the on drop white rule !! ridiculous !!!!!
So Lauren (By the way i know i can’t kick your ass, but i can’t kiss you ass either, i didn’t insult you so don’t insult me thanks, we’re not here for that), Have you ever been in africa?? If youy haven’t , you should go , you would be VERY surprised !!

Nigeria. The main reason I haven’t been is because of the problems Africa has with terrorism, Rape, and diseases.
I know she isn’t have black half white. I mean because of slavery in the U.S. she probably has some white blood. By the looks of it maybe around 70% African 20% White & 10% Native American.
Like you I have German and African blood. But I am 50% German.

People are just something else….black or people or people of african american descent come in all shades & all looks. I’m 100% Kenyan (first generation) which is east African for those who don’t know, i have what many people call “chinky” eyes & people often ask if i have some Asian background & i’m the same skin tone as Keri Hilson. I can trace my nationality back about 7 generations & they’re all pure bred Kenyan. Is someone really going to try and convince me that i’m not really African because i’m “light skinned”.

Skin colour does not indicate mixed heritage. I come from a very cosmopolitan country and I know many mixed people whose skin colour range from very dark to very light. It’s all a matter of genetics.

I also do not believe that calling yourself bi-racial means you are denying anyone side of your heritage…it means that you embrace both sides! It certainly does not mean that you think you are better than one of the two races that joined to create you.

It’s like fruits…an apple, a banana and a strawberry all look and taste different but they are still fruits and they are all good for you. My point is…we may look different and call ourselves different things but we are all humans and equal.
