you know what really bugs me is the “just African-American” part! I mean if people have watched the film”Roots” yet please do so!
because every single black person in North America and England all have a “white mans” last name. there is to answers to why this is and they all lead to slavery and colonialism.
1) which is obvious there is a white male ancestor in the line. either through marriage or Rape.
2) the name descends from a slave master that owned the ancestor just before slavery ended.
No. 1) is about 90% true. so when people say there are 100% then sorry “Mr Jackson” your name is a white man’s name!
so unless you want to take a leaf out of Malcolm X Book. all westernized blacks should be called X As we don’t have African tribal last names.
this the reason why most Africans-Americans don’t get on with Afrikaans. because the Afrikaans believe the black people of the White mans world have lost there Roots.
“you need to know were you come from to know were you are going”
this is why I :D when I watch programs like “who do you think you are” and when a black person is surprised to find a “Mulatto” and white person in there family tree!
I’m like come on you should all know this by now. but just because I know I can’t not Judge someone of not knowing the History of the Americas and Europe with regards the our Black history
I’m mixed black mom and white father. and my mother has a Scottish last name coming from a line of black Jamaicans she know that there is a white Scottish man from which she gets her Gaelic surname.
I just wish people would just face the facts in the 21st century because what has happened has happened.
with Kerri(a welsh name) light eyes and nose shape she has a European feature and “Hilson” being a very “English surname. http://www.houseofnames.com/hillson-family-crest

I watched a video of her on you tube when she travelled to South Africa and she found out that was actually of South African background and belonged to be particular tribe that I can’t remember unfortunately. However, she is just as African American as other African Americans because all Black Americans originate from some part of Africa :)
Never the less gorgeous girl indeed.

Finally, I agree with you again. Keri Hilson is probably much like Tyra Banks, who has dark-skinned parents and a dark-skinned brother. They are both about as mixed as your average African-American.

And by “Average African-American is not mixed? Last I checked there are no “Africans” who are from “America”. Just as much as there are no “Europeans” from America. However there are Europeans/Caucasians whom are mixed who live in “America”. Just because someone of African decent looks dark or medium toned with coarse hair, doesn’t mean that they’re 100% African. With all the happenings in slave trades, settling in America, Native American involvement, European rapes and so forth….its no way possible that the “Average African-American” you speak of, that you see daily is 100% African. Therefore, they are all MIXED. Thank you!

Wrong, although you are initially correct about some African Americans having mixed ancestry due to historical rape etc. Not as many black slaves were raped as sensationalized by TV or whatsoever source used to gather that slightly inaccurate information. If this offends you, well sucks for you.

You do know that being “dark skinned” Is not a sign of how mixed you are. Don Cheadle has something like 70% of white ancestry and Liya Kebede (Ethiopian Model), is 100% African and is light skinned.
Yes, often times a “mulatto” child is light skinned, but not always, in history there has been many children that were born dark and abandon because they didn’t look “mulatto”.

Don Cheadle 70% white?? YEAH RIGHT. lol If he went along with that lie, that just proves that blacks in Hollywood/The Music Industry are nothing more than willing tools used to deceive the black community into compliance with the white supremacy/rulership agenda.

Point taken, JoAnne. I agree.
But I do not agree that Don Cheadle is 70% white. Perhaps you meant he is 70% black and 30% white. Numbers got mixed up, maybe?

Don Cheadle was on one of those genealogy specials, and has VERY significant white ancestry – which is kind of hard to process… but it can happen.
