Does Syrian-Lebanese mean that he’s from both Syrian and Lebanese ancestry? Or does this mean he is only from Syrian or Lebanese ancestry?
From the description of a great-grandfather:
“Hassan was born in Beirut, Lebanon.”
This would imply someone of Syrian nationality born in Lebanon.
I don’t like that designation. If the man is from Lebanon, then he’s Lebanese, right? Syrian vilayet wasn’t even a country, but a subdivision of Ottoman empire.
It’s quite common for American Censuses to list them as born in “Syria” though.
